I think this is starting to get crazy, last year I paid a total of $3,400 for 2 semesters and a parking pass at Sheridan College in Brampton (which I thought was pretty good).

Today I got my tuition fee invoice and the tuition for 1 semester is $2,400, plus a 1 semester paking pass for $159, for a total of $2,559 for 1 semester.

Assuming that the tuition stays relatively the same next semester, I will be paying $5,118. That is a 66% increase in tuition in just half a year.

If tuition goes up by another 66% next year, that will bring my total to $7,754. Thats not including books which usually cost about $650 (assuming I can get some of them used).

Most students apply and receive government funding, such as OSAP, but when I applied for OSAP last year I received a grand total of $200! And when I applied this year I got a letter in the mail stating that Due to my income last year I will not be recieving any funding.

Am I the only one who thinks this is ludacris? And being a student who only works part time, has bills to pay and pays for everything myself, the government thinks I can afford this shit...:flaming

Sorry for the rant, just had to get that out and looks like no more mods for a long time!

i think you get off easy, although the increase does suck, I pay about $13000 a year for tuition/rez/meal plan/books at MAC, hence why i don't have a mazda 3 yet :( im not surprised that they are increasing fees like crazy for you, here at MAC, since i came in 3 years ago, rez has gone up like 35%

I pay $15000 for 2 semesters + rez+ food at University of Waterloo . Damn engineering program sooo expensive

Actually the reason why I stayed in Brampton was so I didn't have to pay for rez. I could live at home and still work part time.

Yeah, tuition is a big complaint for many people, yet it's nothing new for me.

I attended private school from JK to Grade 12, and paid $7000 every year
so 14 years x $7000 per year = $98,000 PLUS I always made big donations to them during special events like concerts.

Now, I'm paying $5500 a year, plus $1000 for parking, and I'm in 4th year
so 4 years x $6500 per year = $26000, and I am NO where near finishing my education yet.

So for me, based on tuition fees alone, I have already spent
98,000 + 26,000 = $124,000
I have never been approved for OSAP or anything. So it's always been family paying for everything.

Yes, tuition fees will keep rising, but unfortunately for us, we have to bite the bullet and keep forking the money over until we graduate and can break even and then make a profit for ourselves.

It does suck... but when your done its worth it. Generally speaking, your better off for getting a good job and will make more money than those who didnt go :) Of Course, this is generally speaking.

I'm doing computer science coop at U of T, and I'm paying $4.4k a semester. Its a flat rate so it doesn't matter how many courses I take per semester. Can't really complain though, coop pays well =D

The tuition seems a little high for college. I remember my brother paying $2.4k a year like 3 years ago. Stupid tution increases :(

I'm at roughly $5500 a year its been the same (pretty much) for the last two years. I'm expecting a decent hike this year though. That plus the expenses of living in Toronto are quite hefty.

Its funny though, I'm on the Humber Campus attending the University of Guelph. I pay around 6 grand a year. Where as my girlfriend who is on the same campus attending Humber College pays just over half of what I pay.

There is always such variance between all the different programs. The best thing I can say is that I'm working for the school and getting some of my money back. Its the best job ever. As my attendance on the board might tell you! hehe.

Engineering is always the most expensive program; for Western it's always been $2k more then anyone. There's been talk of it being $8k next year. =(

just as i finished my undergrad i was paying about 4500-5000k (depending on my course load) and that was just for tuition... including rent, food, gas for the car and what not i was paying about 13,0000k a year. And that is why i've got a mountain of student debt behind me, no help from the parents.

but my undergrad was nowhere near as bad as the teaching program i was in, tuition alone was 15,000k in Australia b/c i was an international student. that was mental!!

I think everyone here doesn't like paying for high tuition fees (myself included - can't remember how much UofT was costing me - I blocked it from my mind), but I try to look at it that with the paper and degree behind my name, I'm not saying "And do you want fries with that." at work.

Moving forward:

You started paying for your tution at the age of 5 years old??? - You'd have to be at least making $13,000 before tax - at the age of 5. I'm sure child labour laws were being broken. Whew - your parents are tough.

Awwww!
HAHAHA!

Well, fortunately for me, I don't pay a cent, nor have I for the past 16 years of education. Everything is taken care of by family.

But I know how tough it can be having to afford everything on your own, as I have friends in that boat, and they do rag on me because of that.

Thanks, but its not that bad...I'm a little over dramatic sometimes. When my daughter was born I started a C.S.T. Plan and at the moment they state I'll or my daughter, excuse me, will have $30k for her schooling, ...I'll just have to fork out for the extras.

Note; To any future or present parents I highly recommend starting a plan for your kids asap.....Its basically, at this point taken a weight off my shouders knowing my daughter will get a fine education, that she'll need and appreciate and without the financial burden.

i would will save to help my kid pay, but i payed my way, my parent helped here and there of course (particularly, as i didn't leave town, no rent), and i will do the same, but, it has made me a stonger person, and i will make my kids do the same, summer work, part-time job, and i will cover things over that!

my parents helped a little but i definitely shouldered the majority of the cost. it was definitely a sense of accomplishment when i got my degree and knowing that i did it myself...its sense of ownership, although the bank still owns the degree (until i pay them off)

Oh the pain of tuition fees.....I had to use OSAP for all four years, and needless to say it took quite some time paying that off afterwards (money from wedding FTW). To the OP, seriously, I know it sucks but IMO you have it pretty good as compared to other post secondary schools. It'll hopefully all be worth it in the end anyways, just keep that in mind.

$25,000 tuition this September for me, 1 year, not including rent, food, books, internet, etc.

Hopefully I can make it out of the year alive!

I chose to go to uni close to home, that way I can save on rent and have a new mz3! I pay about $5500 a year in tuition for a business program. One of the nice things about small universities is that they are granted quite a bit more to cover tuition from the govt than larger schools, like Queens. My two year stint in engineering at Queens cost me about $15,000 a year.

I didn't get a dime from my parents.

Just paid off my student loans a couple weeks ago. Woot! That money will now go toward my MS3 payment. :chuckle
