View Full Version : Anybody Else Have Squeeky Seats?

Hello all, long time no talk!
My driver's seat has had ongoing 'squeek' issues with attempted 'grease' fixes, to no avail. After the last attempted fix (at Westowne), I was told they'd order a new seat base for me (which I've been waiting for weeks for and am told is coming from Japan...or the moon).
Anyway, it sure is annoying driving a new car that sounds like it should be a horse and buggy. Anyone else feeling my pain?

I've got a squeek commin from the drivers seat. I tried to make the seat make the noise to hear where its commin from, but I can't it just happens when it wants.

I've got the squeek too, it only happens when I put weight on the right side. You can ask the dealer to get a new seat for this?
My seat sounds bad. It's been this way for mmmm maybe 4 months + now.

I had serious squeak problems coming from the driverss side seat belt hinge last winter and also talked to Westowne. They too told me that they would order an entire new seat for me, but 12 months later, I have yet to hear from them. That being said, the squeak did disappear (don't know what happened) and has not been much of an issue since.
new seat !!! lol no dealer will ever do that

Thanks for the replies.
Just to clarify, Westowne didn't order a new seat, just the seat base. And yes, it probably will take a year to arrive...Been waiting a few months already.

That sounds like a load of crap to me. There is no reason why it should take that long to order. Unless they put it on a raft and set it to sea.
I'd be on their case...

I know, you're right. Basically I'm asking them at every oil change, but it's getting to the point where I'm getting REALLY annoyed.

Where abouts are you? I've had great luck at Erin Mills Mazda... It is in mississauga. Sonny is the guy to see. He knows his shit.

I'm at Martin Grove and Burnhamthorpe, literally 5 mins. from Westowne. However when it comes to distance vs service quality, the latter wins hands down.
I'm going to give them a little while longer because they've actually been really good to me. If it doesn't work out by the summer, I'll be calling elsewhere.

I didn't know so many people had this problem. For me, my driver seat started to squeak about 1 week after getting my car (2007 Mazda 3 GS). For weeks it drove me nuts and I couldn't find out why. By chance, I found it was the driver seat belt near where it connects to the seat, so I just vigoursly moved it around for a minute and it never made the noise again.
Been noticing the squeak more and more now, very very annoying, thank god for loud music lol. only on the drivers seat..

Hmm, seems like more amd more of you are saying 'seatbelts'. I'm gonna try and mess around with my belt and I'll let you know what happens.
If you figure it out... take a digi pic and post it up so I can see what part was making the noise for ya & such... thx.

My passenger squeaks like crazy. Used to squeak when I go over bumpy road but not it squeaks on flat road. I brought it to the dealership and they greased it for me, it made it even worst. My friends with Mazda 3s got cloth and mine is leather so I was thinking that might be the cause.

The squeaking driver's seat comes from the mounting bolt at the back of the seat on the center tunnel. Take the nut off and put a rubber washer on the bolt and then put the nut back on. The flat face of the nut rubs on the seat mounting bracket. Metal on metal = squeaks.
I bought a 2004 sedan and so I went through all of the annoying first model year problem. My 2007 Sport on the other hand is almost perfect!

My driver's seat doesn't squeak, but it rocks. It is loose to begin with and it starts to get worse especially I drive standard and every step down the clutch, it gives the seat a push and resulting the seat shifting back. Very annoying.
It leaves my gf wonders what I do in my driver's seat all the time making it rocks and loosen up. lol. :chuckle
Anyway, I took it to Mississauga Mazda and they will replace the base for me under warranty. Since it is not in stock, it will take a couple of days before it arrives.

not sure if it's the seat or the center console,, but it's friggin annoying

As posted several times here, it's the hinge where the seatbelt buckle mounts to the main seat frame. It was particularly noticeable in the winter with cooler temps. I pointed it out to the service guys and they put a little bit of grease in. Just tell your service guys about it at your next oil change and you'll be set. No more noise since it's been lubed up!

Good point. I have not heard a peep out of mine in the last few months.

i shot some WD40 into the seatbelt buckle and that solved it!!! actually both front seats had been squeeking... all silent now!
btw, elder MMHS, in my case, it wasn't the hinge. it was the buckle latching mechanism itself. the WD40 never touched the hinge point.

Mine's more of a creaking than a squeak. Like something's rattling somewhere around the driver's seat or center console, but I can't quite find it.
Same thing? Or are you guys talking about a real squeak?

It's probably the center console. When the seat belt squeaks, it really squeaks.
I took care of both of issue, for the squeak, bought one of those grease spray from home depot, sprayed on the bolt. As for the center console, get some rubber felt from the home depot... um a picture would worth a thousand words here... You have to stick them on the bottom door of center console where it touches the top door.
So far I have no more squeak/rattles.
I think I may to take care of cowl rattle before the winter.

Shit, I keep getting a squeak in my car too. Drives me nuts, but not nuts to get down and inspect it yet as it's intermittent. :D I'll go tighten the seat belt now. ;)

every morning, i do get squeeky sounds from the center console and also the moonroof and the front seat (leather). and i am wondering if it is the seat belt as well! well this morning i just gave the seat a punch... and it kinda silent for a bit. I guess i will try doing sth on the seat belt tonight. Yeah and those squeeking sounds just drive me crazy :complain
But then after parking outside for a day, it seems alright, maybe the new 401 isn't that bummpy ... soo no noise last night. :)
Can you get a pic? :bana
There ya go.
I even carry those felts in my compartment in case I find more rattles.

I just realized this thread was here, and I've had the drivers right side squeak for some time now. I thought it was just me and i'd live with it. (excuse to turn up the music)
I'll grease that bolt this weekend
I noticed if you have something in cup holders, that will cause pretty bad rattle too. Things such as, key chains, cellphone, plastic cup,... etc.
I didn't realize that until this morning. I had a pill container in there, I was surprised how much rattle that caused.

Sorry to bring up this thread once again. My 2007 GS (had for about a year) started squeeking very noticably on the driver seat. Sounds like a spring squeeking or something when I go over bumps. I pretty much hear it at any time the road is even the slightest rough.
It is NOT the seatbelt connector (which I had the problem about a year ago). I am reading all kinds of things from replacing the seat base, to some metal rubbing against other metal under the seat and to put a rubber washer in there. Should I just bring it in? Will it be free to fix?
Now I am reading about people keeping FELT in their car to separate plastic form rubbing.. wtf is wrong with this picture?

i had squeaky seat , till i took off the seat cushion and lubed a what looked to a polyurethane bushing with white grease , close to the back left of the seat . The squeaking comes back now and then , so i just keep hitting the problem area , and it seems to help

Whats wrong with this picture? its a Mazda....I believe this problem has been around since the 2004 model year, I could be wrong ,but, Why Mazda doesn't do something to correct during the build beats me? or maybe they have but it still occurs. I have an 05 and no squeekes, yet, but for some reason in the back of my mind it will occur..don't get me started on the squeeky brakes

Check your seatbelt connectors first. If not that, then try raising your seat a bit (might be some rubbing if your seat is low).

Same squeaks here....Took the car in yesterday for it's 16000km service and I'm getting two new female seatbelt ends....Let's see if this helps...I doubt it since it's probably and inherent problem with the part or design...

I have this problem too... Seems like a creek from the seat belt holder on the driver's side.
Brought it to the dealership's attention during my oil change, but they could not reproduce the problem.
Anyone have pictures of where exactly I should try to lube?

There is a connector connecting the seatbelt 'snap' to the right side of your driver's seat. Just move your seatbelt snap back and forth and see if you can hear the noise. When I did it, I could hear it very loudly, so I just rotated the hell of it back and forth and now the noise is gone :/

Oddly, i came here to report this very problem.
Somewhat reassuring to know that its not just me...(though, maybe that is a bad thing)
i dont believe mine has to to do with the seat belt.
i am able to reproduce it by pushing on the front right side of the drivers seat.
its insanely annoying.
seems that its a spring or somethign under the seat.
how can i get at the bottom to take a look around?

Well it's been a few weeks since the female belt connectors were replaced on both front seats and so far so good. No squeaks or rattles!!
BTW thank-you to whoever posted about using weatherstripping on the centre console storage area, to tighten up the fit. That thing was driving me nuts, but it is silent now....
Of course now my door panel has a little click, but I can live with that one for now.

My passenger seat is squeeky only when someone is sitting in it. Most of the time I ask the passenger to move the seat back one notch and that solves it.
My passengers usually don't notice it, but I sure do. Plus I'm always moving my passenger seat forward to make it easier for me to get my hockey bags in and out of the back seat. (I'm a goalie, pads in the trunk, everything else in the back seat)
