Does anybody who run stock rims and tires during the winter have this problem beginning to show. Did a search but couldn't come up with anything but I am kinda sure this might have been posted before, maybe the old forum.
I think most were complaining about bubbling and peeling at the center of the rim

there are a few threads here about this. I dont' have anything nearly as bad as the pics in that link. But i have some bubbling/peeling near the center cap and i think many other members also.
I've already spoken to the dealership and they said no problem, bring it in and they will refinish it.

I've had to have my rims refinished twice now. Bought my car in August 2004, and by the time I went to put my winters on the next year in October 2005 , they were already bubbling and peeling. Sent them off with my Mazda dealer, got them back and stored them for the winter.
Opened them up the next spring (April 2006) to put them on, and they had gotten even worse! (and yes, I did check them before I put them in storage). The bubbles were the size of loonies/toonies all over all 4 rims. I was not happy. So had to delay putting them back on, sent them back to Mazda (to which they grumbled about it because it was twice now) but they fixed them. They were ok for the course of the summer, so we'll see in in another month how they look before I put them back on. The service guys wanted to blame me for where I stored them, but I know how to store rims...regardless it shouldn't have happened that bad at all IMO. I take good care of my car and I've owned enough cars that I've never had problems that bad with rims before. If it happens again I'll be dealing with Mazda Canada directly.
It is a problem that the dealers have seen, so just take it in and they'll send the rims off to be re-finished.

Would the vehicle have to be within warranty for the dealership to send it off for refinishing?

If they send them in to be refinished, would you have to supply your own wheels to run on?

Great question. They should replace them. How is anybody suppose to drive their car when the rims are in for refinishing? don't think it only takes a day to do them?

Mine took 3-4 days to be done because they have to be shipped to an outsourced location for the job.
I've always had it done at the same time my winters were coming off/going on so I never had an issue of not having wheels...no idea what they would do otherwise.
Also not sure about being done outside of warranty. I'd be asking someone from Mazda about that.

If you've kept your work receipt from the first visit in Oct '05 and if at the time, you were within your warranty period...3years/60k, they should have replaced your rims with brand new ones!! Not sent them out for refinishing and since the problem seems to persist, you should go back armed with your work order receipt and demand a brand new set of rims......Don't put up with Dealerships Bull.
Under no circumstance should anyone with the same problem if still under warranty settle for anything less than brand new....period.

Already tried that....from discussions on this board, I knew that a few members who had the same issue had their rims replaced under warranty. I complained extensively and suggested that they be replaced. They said no, they would refinish. So I said that I already knew of a few people who had theirs replaced under warranty and that I was displeased with the situation having happened twice, blah blah.
The dealer told me that Mazda Canada was originally replacing rims outright, but stopped doing that and was now only offering refinishing under warranty.
I noticed a few spots on them before I took them off for the winter this year (nothing NEAR as bad as last time just the idea of it happening again made me want to do something about the last 2 times) so I called Mazda Canada to complain about it. The guy said they would open an investigation and that I would have to take my car to the dealer to assess the problem (well the problem at this point wasn't really the same problem, as it had mostly been fixed). I knew the dealer would give me a line of BS or probably lie to Mazda Canada and say that the rims were fine as is. So I didn't even go. Mazda Canada never followed up with me either, and I mostly forgot until this thread that I even called them.
Trust me...I wanted new rims. I feel I DESERVE new rims. But, I can't force them to give me something that they or Mazda Canada don't deem necessary.

I got my 2005 3 sedan GT - leather in Nov. 2004. Went through that winter w/ the stock rims (17"), just before winter 2005, the original stock rim were bubbling around the center cap. Complained to the dealer and brought w/ me some print-outs from the previous site and showed it to them and they ordered me new ones. These new ones were put on (Approx.) Apr 2006 to Jan 2007. When I was about to switch to winters, these new ones were bubbling and showed them to the dealer. This time a different dealer and they replace them with new ones. So, Im running on new rims (again) right now.

I know that one of the members on the mazda3forum.com had his rims powdercoated by an independant shop and the mazda reimbursed him for it. It's an alternative to getting them done by mazda.

I would rather have them refinished than get new ones. Since this seems to be a somewhat common problem with these wheels, you'd expect a good chance of it just happening again.
If you get them refinished by a reputable shop, you can expect them to come out better than new and hell, you could even change the colour!

Well I'm sorry to hear that all your efforts were in vein, maybe at this point you might try what members above mentioned and see if Mazda will reinburse you...Power coated rims are pretty cool look'n anyways.

Hate bringing up and OLD thread but I noticed that one of my rims has started to bubble near the center cap.
A friend of mine had the same issue and he was able to get the rims powdercoated at a shop and the dealer paid for part of it.
For those of you that had the same issue, have the dealers been replacing the defective rim or refinishing it?

How long ago did you get the rims replaced? Did the service guys know about this problem ?

Sometimes e-mails don't get delivered or get lost in the Internet. When you phone, you normally get someone live(or get transferred :chuckle).
I'd give Carcone's a call again. Ask for Ron.
As mentioned in other threads, it's about $125 to finish a wheel and you have your choice of painted or powerder coated. Same price.
Dealerships use them and they normally turn around in 24 - 48 hours depending on how busy they are.

I'm in Alberta, but I took my car in to the dealer after putting up with peeled rims for over a year. They said they will replace the rim, I am just waiting for the order to come in.
The first dealer I went to, I had them address the issue 3 times and they never did anything about it. I'm never going back to that dealership again.
