Hey guys/gals,
My air bag light on the guage cluster came on friday afternoon and stayed on until Saturday night. I started the car yesterday morning and it is now off. Friday I booked an appointment to get it checked next week. Now that it is off, should I still go in to have it checked, or is this something that happens from time to time?
Thanks,
Sean

DEFINITELY go get it checked out before you actually have to make use of it..
if the light came on, most likely there will be a code in the ECU as long as you haven't disconnected the battery.. the dealer should be able to pull the info and tell you what happened and repalce under warranty (if applicable)

thinking logically here....jus to see
did you have anything laying on the passenger seat weighing roughly less than 90lbs during the time the light was on?
if so, that could be your problem, as the air bag sensor in teh passenger seat disables the airbag if it reads something with a weight of 90lbs (correct me if im wrong on teh weight) or less, and it makes your light turn on!
...on second thought is that jus for the light above the ashtray, as i re-read and he mentioned gauge cluster?
hmmmmmmmmmm

If it's on the gauge cluster...
"A system malfunction is indicated if the
warning light constantly illuminates or
does not illuminate at all when the
ignition switch is turned to the ON
position. If either of these occur, consult
an Authorized Mazda Dealer as soon as
possible. The system may not work in an
accident."
-Manual
It also includes the pretensioner system for the seatbelt.

Yeah, its the one on the dash between the speedo and tach. My girlfriend was sitting in the seat for a bit, but the light stayed on after she got out, it stayed on all day Saturday with no one sitting in it. I started the car Sunday morning and it didn't come on. I have it booked in to get checked on the 9th.
Thanks for the replies!

Mine just came on yesturday. I have had problems way way back in 04 and there was a recall on the sensor or something like that. Now it is on again and it is out of warrenty so I know I am going to have to fight with them that it is an implied warrenty that the airbag is going to work for the life of the car

Thats odd
Mine came on just today too for the first time ever after owning the car for 3 years now
It just randomly popped up while I was driving on the highway
After turning the car off and back on it didnt come on

My air bag light comes on when my car has been sitting in the scorching hot sun for a couple of hours.
I've taken it in twice, but made the mistake of shutting off my car to get a service technician then when I turned my car back on, the light was off.
I made them make a note of it just in case something does happen.

Digging up an old thread...hope you guys don't mind
Basically lately out of random occasions my passenger airbag light would light up (07 Sport GT - therefore the light is besides the lighter)....It has only lit up on rare occasions but it seems to light up everytime:(i think when both 1 and 2 occur....but not 100% sure)
1. i parked the car outside and when i start the car the temperature stick is below the C(cold)
2. i think i have only seen this happen at times when someone (my girlfriend) sits in the passenger seat.
Once I dropped off my gf at her place and restarted the car the other night....the passenger airbag light is normal again =/ any1 have any suggestions why this may happen? is it because my gf is too light as posted above?
oh and if this is any useful info....my car is still pretty new...

I believe so, there is a specified weight that is required to activate the passenger airbag, if the individual does not meet nor surpass this weight specification, the airbag is deactivated as to avoid any injury as a result of the airbag deployment.

i'm reading the manual and it says 66 pounds.....i highly doubt my girlfriend is that light?
edit:
manual states: less than approx 66lb = light ON
Approx. 93lb or more = light OFF
what about if the weight was in between? and i don't think my girlfriend is lighter than 93lb =S

maybe she's sitting funny on the seat and not hitting the sensor right.

I have noted this that it also depends on HOW you sit in the seat. My bf is 200 lbs and if he leans on one side the passenger air bag light comes on
It doesnt only just happen for him but also random other people if they would sit too low on the seat or lean ... I dont think the seat gets the actual weight. Think stepping on a scale with one foot
