Hey there,

I just bought an '04 3 Sport GT and was wondering if anyone here is using a 225/45/17 tire and if so, are there any rubbing issues? Thanks in advance!

225 is to wide for the stock rim and is not recommended. The width of the rim is 165 (6.5").

I had 225 (Potenza's) on a 8" wide rim but my car is lowered with Tein Stechs (approx. 2") and they were taken off right away
So no if the car is lowered on a wide rim dont even think about it

what tires are you getting. I have some 215/45/17 on Special

225 is very wide. I'm running my old FD wheels with 225/50/16 S-03's. They stick out from the fenders a tiny bit at the front. They sit more flush in the rear.

They're not as big as 17's, but I've noticed a difference right away regarding grip and fuel economy!
The grip levels have gone up considerably from the stock 195's. However, the fuel economy has taken a huge hit.

For this type of vehicle, with this size engine, the 205's should be more than enough.
If the vehicle had more power I would consider the 225's.

Stock tires on the MS3 are 215's. 225's would probably help.

It goes to show you, this is still an economy car. It doesn't weigh too much so there's no real need to ride on rubber this wide.
Factory sizes are more than enough.

I have 225/45R17 Falken RT-615s on 17x7.5 et +50mm wheels, lowered >2" on coilovers. I DO NOT rub. 225s will fit perfectly fine with the correct offset, and is a better match for the stock overall diameter than 215/45R17 tires.

Here's a related question:

Most tire manufacturers recommend 215's on 7 - 7.5" rims.

Placing 215's on a 6.5" is popular, what what am I giving up?
Highspeed cornering stability?
