View Full Version : Door Open Light won't turn off therefore alarm goes off!

The first day I brought my car home and parked it in my driveway the alarm went off twice within 20 minutes. I discovered that I was unable to lock my car with the key fob and after some investigating I noticed the 'door open' light on my dashboard was illuminated. I opened and closed every door including the trunk, hood and gas tank multiple times to no avail. :bang So I gave up and decided to drive to the gym. On my way there I starting playing with the door locks and noticed the light had turned off. Problem solved! :)
It had been about 3 weeks without a problem until today when it starting happening again. This time no matter what I try nothing turns off the light on my dash and I can't lock the car with my key fob.
I know that the OEM car alarm won't turn on if a door is open, hence why I can't lock the car.
Any suggestions as to how I can fix this?

Well first off - it's under warranty so just take it back to the dealer to fix for free! Why kill yourself looking for an electrical problem?
BTW - I'm pretty certain that you have a faulty switch/sensor in one of your doors.

I haven't had the chance to take it in. Any good Mazda dealers around Brant and QEW? I want to take it to MoT but it's too far to go now that I work in Burlington.

sort of bringing this thread out of the dead!!! circa 2007!!
just a quick question, maybe someone can answer for me. sometimes after turning off my car, and then opening my door i get this beeping sound which in turn doesn't allow me to lock my doors. Its not the lights on switch either, it's set to auto. If i turn the car on again, then turn it off it's fine and I can lock my doors, like it's reset something.
is there a switch that's turned on somewhere that makes this happen sometimes?? or tell me how i'm doing this. hahahaa eff. I feel like such a noob.

if it is a consistand beep sound not like a pulse beep then that would mean your lights are on but it still allows you to lock your car. Just your battery will be dead upon return if your lights are really on. If it is a pulse beep more then likely the car is telling you the key is in the ignition and this is a symbol your ignition switch is on its way out. I have seen it more then once as in many cases the car sometimes doesnt want to start or causes beeping noises etc etc

nope my lights are always off, because it's set to automatic.
its a somewhat high pitched constant beep. keys are already out of the ignition, once i open the door the beep comes on, then i know i can't lock my door. i have to turn my car on, then off again so i can lock the doors with my fob. this doesn't happen every single time.. just randomly.
booooooo ignition switch. i flippin hope its not on the way out!!!

Simple thing to try (and eliminate).....Get some WD-40 and spray the door switches, move them in and out several times after spraying....might just be a sticky switch :)

I *think* there was a TSB for the ignition switch going bad where the car still thinks you have the keys in the ignition
as for the door switches, there aren't any! they are built into the door latches!

:S may be a ignition switch i may have one kicking around i dont know if its any good or not though but once i find it i will let you know and we can possibly try it out if you are interested. Now i dont know exactly if the ignitions need a new key or if there is a electronic part that can be switched out. But like i said i will let you know when i find mine

I meant the latches, :) ....they can stick! I've seen it, not on my car as I keep it well lubed :chuckle

if the door latch sticks, you can't close/open the door!

Not necessarily true.A "sticky" or a "stuck" latch are two different things.Usually a "sticky" latch will only occur once the door is opened and only periodically hense when Crystal mentioned it happened only sometimes, this came to mind.

There is, and the exact symptoms Crystal is experiencing.....just looked it up lol and it is the switch or a part of the switch :)
TSB covers 04s to '06s but check the vin.
