Hopefully this isn't a sign of thing to come but I got another CEL in less than a month!!! :flaming
The last CEL happened approx 3 weks ago and MOT had to replace the purge solenoid. Now I have to make another appointment with MOT. Whats next???

Hey man... Do you have a CAI or Any part of your intake/exhaust system aftermarketed? If so, have someone look at the O2 sensor on them. Generally the CEL is a O2 sensor throwing a bad signal.... either it has gone bad (in your case, I doubt it) or it isnt properly screwed in. Let me know. If you have a problem and mazda wont fix it, I know a great shop that will take care of it for you ;)

Hey Jeff, I have a Simota SRI V1 installed since September of last yr. The thing I don't understand is that I never threw a CEL during the winter until now. If need be I'll take off the SRI before I take it in.

I would suggest you leave it on, otherwise they won't be able to diagnose the problem properly! Seeing as you've had the cai on for that amount of time, I dought it would be the culprit, unless its a loose wire....Has the CEL stayed on or was it just temporary?

The wiring harness is a little short.... ask chuckie.... The MAF sensor you plug into the CAI sometimes comes loose as the harness pulls back.... hense the CEL. If it isnt that, id be happy to have a look at your ride. Otherwise, see if mazda will fix it.... If that doesnt work, bring it to Jimmy at Street Performance! He will fix it.

I'll recheck the connection @ the MAF and also see if there is any slack in the harness. If need be I'll unclip the harness from the battery box to give it some slack too.
Fingers crossed.

if the MAF wires are ok, look into cleaning the MAF wire with some electronic contact cleaner. it could be dirty and you could be getting a "too lean at idle" code.

Before I went to work today, I checked the wiring to the MAF and it looks fine. I unclipped it and plugged it back in and I still get the light..doh !! Made the call this morning to book an appointment with MOT on Saturday to figure this thing out.

oy vey.. might be a little too late.. i had the same problem.. being a modding n00b i didn't unclip the MAF wire look off the battery box :(
I put it back to stock and its fine b/c there's more slack but when i put the SRI back on i will definitely give it more room by unclipping it!

Well here's the update...
1) I took a look at the MAF sensor and it was dirty so I cleaned it with an alcohol swab.
2)Decided to reinstall the factory air box and filter for now.
Started up the car and no more CEL...so for now I'll leave it as is for now...anyone wanna buy a SRI?

I'm having the same problem you are.
I'm going to try cleaning the sensor as well to see if it helps although I have already taken the car into MoT and they couldn't fix it...
I'm still deciding if I should take it out or not...

i'm not sure what you did BUT
how to clean the MAF (http://www.mazda6tech.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=62&Itemid=1)
so you may have just cleaned the air temp sensor.. in addition, you probably disconnected the battery when you removed the SRI clearing the CEL.. ALSO, b/c you put the stock air box on, you increased the slack on the MAF wire thus potentially eliminating the CEL..
cliffs' notes: you did too many things to diagnose what causes the problem and to see if it's really gone :P

Thanx for the link majic..I guess what puzzles me is that if it was due to the slack/lack of in the harness, why didn't I get the CEL when I first installed the SRI? Yeah you're right in that I should of did one thing at a time and see if that eliminated the CEL. I'll keep an eye on it over the next few days.
I'm such a newbie at doing mods to the engine...:blush
