Is it possible to balance tires yourself?
ANd if so how can I do it? I went in for my 24k service and the guys recommended an alignment and balancing.

Thanks,

As far as I know balancing is pretty cheap, something like $40 or less. Not worth the effort.

Allignment.....that is a not cheap and I'm pretty sure you are not doing that yourself.

I put the summers on myself to save $$, but I kinda feel that I need to balance because the car feels a bit weird when I turn.

you could balance your tires with a balancing machine if you have 1 or can find 1 to use. Alignment...not to sure about that...

I am going to get my new rims mounted and balanced tmrw at Kipling Tire. They are charging me $20 to take tires off the old rims, put the tires on the new rims and balance them. Pretty good eh :)

I doubt its $40. Probably $20. They charge $50 to swap tires to another wheel and they charge almost the same just to balance it? dont think so... balancing is like no effort.

Unless you have the equipment and the know-how, I'd say no you cannot do either yourself. Also, Why did they recommend the service? Are you having issues with your car pulling to either side or vibrations or anything?....just curious!

$20 to swap rims is really cheap (assuming you mean $20 for all 4, and not each?). I just had it done at T23 for $60.

Yeah, I'd expect to pay around $20 each to swap tires over to a different set of wheels.

You can't balance the tires without a balancing machine so you need a shop to do it.

You can actually do the alignment yourself, but if you have to ask about it then you need to bring it to a shop. Alignments are very complicated, and even moreso without the machines they use in the shops.

How does the car feel weird? Did it feel weird before you put the summer tires on? When you say you put the tires on, I'm assuming you just swapped wheels. You didn't go and try to mount tires on wheels yourself did you?

My summers have been on for 3 weeks no, just that when I turn it seems to be understeering.
I need to do an alignment cause I'm dropped on H-techs.

Yeah, if you haven't done the alignment since changing the springs then you definitely want to have that done.

If the tires need balancing, you'll be feeling vibrations and stuff when you drive.

I don't feel much vibrations, just cornering is a bit weird. Maybee it has something to do with the alignment.

Do the alignment first then, and see where you're at after that. You should have done it anyway after changing the springs, so just go ahead and do it.

Then you can better determine whether you need the wheels balanced.

Oh man I somehow missed this statement, I would check your tire installation pronto, that's A.S.A.P.
Did you retorque your wheels after the installation? and like WW said if you dropped your car it will need an alignment, most likely.

I used a torque wrench to do them and I know I need an alignment; just haven't found time to do it yet.

Got mine done at Walmart. (install that is.)

I do NOT recommend them.
