Hi, I recently saw a "how-to" to repair scratches on wheels. I can't remember where...any help?

How do you repair this kind of scratch? stock wheels have a clear coat, right? how can I re-coat after repairing scratches?

Many thanks.

here are scratchs pics:

That's not a scratch. :) If you're the sort of person who curbs their wheels, you're probably better off not repairing it as it will just end up happening again.

Refinishing the wheel will cost you around $150 each.

I've got huge scrapes much worse than that - I didn't even think that I may be able to paint over it so they're not as noticeable. I couldn't open the picture from mit-gee-mui's link - would the 22V touch-up paint work for the stock rims on the 2006 model?
BTW, I bought my car used and it wasn't me...

As per this quote,

Try some 22V touch-up paint it should be a near match to the color of the rim.

Yes!:)

I was in the same situation as well (someone scratched my rims the day they were put on the car), and I got a touch up paint pen (as close a match as I could since I have gunmetal rims) and just applied it on the damaged section. Of course the rim won't be all "smooth" any more, but it's better than having a blotch of white there staring at my face. Now, unless you look REALLY closely or you have eyes of an eagle, chances are that you will not see the spot. I guess that's the cheapest and/or quickest way to deal with them and/or gives you the least hassle.

Well we call it curb rash, because we all know that that means, but if it weren't a wheel then I'd describe that as a grinding, not a scratch. You couldn't make that mark with an awl, but you sure could with an angle grinder. :)

i am not sure you could cover that up without having it professionaly done

you can do the repair yourself, it just takes time and patience. Check out this guide:http://www.bmwtips.com/tipsntricks/wheel-repair/wheel-scuff-repair.htm

as WW said.. it's curb rash.. or more of a scrape than a scratch.. anyway..

1) use [img] tags instead of the [url] ones.. this way the pix will show up instead of links.. fixed it for ya

2) don't refinish the rims until you're ready to sell b/c it'll happen again and again and you'll be throwing the $150 or so away each time

Great link...Thanks, that's exactly what I was looking for...it was not a video then.

Can we get similar products here in Toronto? where?

thanks

I would expect most of the product is readily available at crappy tire.

Anyone tried this DIY repair? if Yes, did you get products at crappy tire? also, will 22V be the best match for the color?

thanks

I did this repair with a friend on his civic and it turned out great, he has since sold the car. It was very easy to do and the result was almost perfect.

Cool...I will try it, but I don't know where to get paint closest to the wheel color...MoT?

If the stuff at Canadian Tire isn't close enough you can go to Car Quest http://carquest.know-where.com/carquest/cgi/selection?state-map=ON&country=CA&option=P&mapid=CA&lang=en&design=default&place=toronto&region=ON%2CCA or NAPA (pickering location) both can mix any colour into spray can. Booth places will be able to tell you how to do the whole project start to finish.
