Hey everyone...

I have a 2006 a/t and my car is about to hit 20 000km this week, I've noticed with in the past while, not sure exactly when it started but i have noticed it now happenning more recently now driving in auto mode not tiptronic that when i take off from a light/stop sign going slowly like 1400-1600rpm ish just a gentle take off not 3000-5000rpm kinda thing that my tranny will delay shifting into 2nd and then all the sudden it will just engage and the car jerks. Is this something that is just happening becasue the rpms are lower than say 2000rpm-ish where it shifts in auto and where i shift it if i use the tiptronic mode or have any others have had this happen to them, just curious as unfortunatly this is a random event that happens whenever it wants to...I've tried to duplicate everytime after it happens and I can't...I know its probably pointless at this point to take it to the dealer becasue if i can't duplicate the problem how will they be able to...

Any input would be appreciated :)

First thing you should do is check your tranny fluid level. Low levels will cause gear slippage.

-or-

Take it to the dealer and let them figure it out! I'm guessing your car is under warranty still.

Either way, do it NOW. You don't want to neglect a tranny symptom.

I just checked tranny level. and its ok(at cold it was just on the tip of the dipstick and when hot its over the full line)...unfortunatly couldn't get it to do the delay shift today when driving...

Thing about going to the dealer at this point in my eyes is there are no lights comming on in the dash, the level is ok i can't replicate the problem becasue it happens randomly...so what are they going to be able to do...? I was more posting here to see if anyone else had the same thing happening kinda thing...

car isn't a yr old yet so i still have 25 months and 60 000km left under standard warranty and then i have the added map i bought...

I had a similar issue. I mentioned it to MOT a few service's ago. They flashed the ECU, and put the tiptronic back to learning mode. Been great ever since.

looks like "shift shock" issue, thats a common problem on 04-05's model, this is more prominent during cold starts (autoshifting from 1st - 2nd gear)...just bring it to the dealer, they will reflash the ecu (like SFW said) and there is no charge/ under warranty...

Great post! Have been experiencing the exact same thing with my 2004 hatch. Meant to post here but didn't know how to describe the problem. I'll have MOT check it out for me as I'm still under warranty :)

Thanks everyone for the replies, I never thought it would be something so simple as reflashing the ecu...glad thats all it probably will be. I'll have to make an appointment with MOT when I get a bit of free time. Thanks again everyone :)

I recently have had this similar problem. It feels like my car is downshifting by itself when I let off the gas. I have an intake and ms3 oem exhaust. They're not going to be able to blame it on that can they? In addition it would sometimes stall when I come to a stop. I have an auto. It has stalled in total 2 times only. After the second time, eqlso came out to pmall to help me out. We cleaned the maf sensor and it was fine for about 2-3 days. Now its doing it again. No stalling but the car feels wierd and sometimes the rpms would jump up and down for a second. Could this be fixed with an ECU flash and should I uninstall the intake before I take it in? I don't want them voiding my warranty for any reason. Thanks in advance.

Mine seems to hesitate when it goes into 4th gear, and then I have to give it some gas so it can go. Should I get the Flash done too? It has 33,500 km on it

I noticed sometimes, my gear shifts and the number on the HUD changes, but the previous gear revs a bit more..

I would just suggest taking it to the dealer and explain your having harsh shifting between what gears....ask them to look into it.....your car is under warranty so it will be covered either way... I took mine to MOT and explained about harsh shifting and they did the update, for me.

Does anyone know if they charge you for a reflash if you're not under warranty anymore? My 3 suffers from the cold engine harsh/delayed 1-2 shift.

I would like to know as well.. if its under warranty why not just get it fixed.

so is it covered while in warranty?

dsichewski

it was covered under warranty on my car since it was so new.....wasn't even a yr old and only had 20000km on it....
Whether it would be covered on extended warranty I don't know...best to ask the dealer...

I've got the same issue, furthermore, my 5-speed AT is also unsmooth shifting from 2nd to 3rd on a hard acceleration. Does the ECU flash apply to 07' models or just '04-'06?

your transmission needs to be rebuilt or replaced due to wear in the servo which causes the clutch bands to engage improperly... this is a known issue and if your car has extended warranty, go get it replaced now!
