This morning, I got in the car, pressed the clutch and brake and started the engine, there was a loud "clunk" noise from the breaks, its the second or third time its done it, Im guessing pressure bulding up, but never had anything like that in any of my previous cars, its already 11,000 km and as I said, its only done it a couple of times before (last month maybe??) never before, anyone have same issues?

My Corolla has been doing this as well. I'm calling Toyota tomorrow to bring it in under warranty.

Toyota said it's the e-brake sticking. They wanted $180 to fix it because brakes are only covered for the first year or something. Screw that. I'll fix it myself when I work on the brakes.

If it only seems to happen right after you've washed the car, then it could also simply be rust buildup.

My Sunfire did it something fierce both after washing, and throughout the winter when it got put away wet.

The rust builds up a bit, binding the pad to the rotor. It takes a little force to break it loose, and then all is well. Seems odd, but no harm done.

In my case, it happens just about every time.

Skarbro, your corolla has rear drums or discs? In any case you will have to completely disassemble the brakes and lube a couple of components, its pretty common on some rear drum systems for the adjusters to sieze. But in the case of our Mazda's its not the same type and in 1stMazda's case it was probably just weather related as WW touched on.

Yeah it has drums. I'm no stranger to repairing drum brakes. I'll be taking it apart soon.

Yeah I figured that, but just wanted to be sure you were aware of the adjuster problem....let us know how it turns out.
