Here’s the story,

While I was watching tv, my car started to beep (compustar alarm). I looked outside the window to see my little brother and his friend doing something odd near my car. I proceeded to head outside to see what they were up to. My little brother told me, that his friend was scratching my car with a stick. The kid was a neighbor of mine that lives down the street btw. Anyways, I went over to the house and had a talk with his parents. At the time, I couldn’t see any visible scratches because it was raining. Then, the very next morning, I went out to see couple of visible scratches that went through the clear coat.

Now here’s the question, what should I do or what can I do?

make his rents pay for it.... the kid was scratching your car... hes lucky you don't strangle him....

I would have kicked the ****er in the head before i checked to see if there was damage, so definately, go get his rents to pay for it.

you did the right thing in going to tell them right away. that way they can't really say you are trying to rip em off.

maybe dont be all angry, try to position it by saying you can get a deal on the painting through here or something. playing it low key is good in the situations... although i like my original solution. Kick in the head first, ask questions later :chuckle

:chuckle:chuckle kick him in the head, thats harsh remind me not to stand near your car at a meet :) honestly I'm sure the kid didn't mean to do damage to the car.. but really lets be honest here... he knew he was scratching the car with a branch.. if his parents let him do that... great for them.. just not on your car. Why should you have to suffer cuz their kid isn't the brightest crayon in the box.... I agree with Mattc no not the kicking him in the head part.. but approach his parents politely and discuss the matter with them...

Take it to a body shop or two, get some numbers. Then talk to the parents and see what you can work out.

if its just the clear coat gone, apply some clear coat from the touch up pen.
otherwise you can either
1) make them pay for repaint
2) touch up pen
3) (added after reading broli's post above), if your brother was part of it, u should pay 1/2 of the bill as well.
edit: I remember after my first accident. I had to paint my back yard fence! make him do so as well?

i think if ur little bro was with him u should foot the bill or at least half the bill and ask the kids parents for half.

feed him rat poison, then tell his parents they gotta pay for the new paint job (for the whole car).:chuckle

first ask ur brother if he knew what the kid was doing before you offer to pay for half.

if your brother knew, then kick him in the head too for being a douche, and having douchebag friends :chuckle

i woulda just dropped kicked the kid across the yard.
but if someone did that to my car, even a younger child, i still wouldnt pay any part of the bill, only cuz the kids should know what they are doing.

Right, if your brother was laughing when it was happening and going along with it, you're probably good for half. If your brother told him to stop and came up to you and warned you about it, like I think I read in your frist post. His parents need to take responsibility for their child's actions and punish him.

Ok Parents should pay for it.

Secondly, why didnt your brother stop him?

Have you ever had one of those idiot friends that do random idiot things on impulse? Like, the brother may have not been looking directly at him, then heard scraaaaatch, looked over and by that time it was far too late? That's most likely what happened.

To be honest, I don't know what my brother was thinking, considering they're only 7 years old. I'm just very disappointed.

You really expect much in the way "thought" when it comes to 7 year olds. They're preoccupied with frogs and knocking girls down at recess. I have to agree with methodyst.

Kick the farkers dog in the nads! If he doesn't have one...buy one for him, present it to him and when you see that look of bliss on his face....kick the dog.

that is ****ed up
firstly ur brother, even tho he is only 7, should have a sense of ownership and respect. Your brother should have literally skull****ed his friend for doing that to a family vehicle
second of all, that little douchebag (his friend) should definitely be punished for his actions. Sadly, its his parents that have to pay for damages, but then again, they should'v taught him better than to vandalize so its partially their fault as well.
Get them to pay, and when your brothers friend comes back for a "playdate", ask if he knows what an armbar is, then demonstrate.

nono, kicking the dog won't do it. Key the paint on his bike. scratch it all up for him. Same principle. Oh, you don't like that scratched paint on your brand new bike? Well guess what.. ;)

7 year olds are not very mature at all, but they are usually whip smart and are sponges for learning. Stuff is funny when it's at other people's expense, but if his parents have to pay for something and he gets in major shit for it, lesson learned. At least we hope.
