Perfectly normal if you don't have a deflector. My wife's TSX does the exact same thing. It's the disturbance of the air as it moves across the opening and hits the metal flange at the front. As your driving pull it down and you'll notice the difference in sound.

try getting the glass adjusted at the dealer
most likely the adjustment of the glss has shifted over time and the glass now sits high at the front and equal to lower at the rear causing your howling

allrighty then i will explain
when the sunroof glass sits to high at the front the wind will hit the edge of the glass causing your howling noise alo when the rear of the glass sits to low then the wind will hit the roof also causig howling

I know i suck at drawing but its the best example i can give you
Now in order to get rid of the howling you must have the front edge of the glass tiny bit below the roof andthe rear of the glass just a littl bi higher then the roof

again my drawings are not very good but i think this should help you guys out

Close the sunroof if you're gonna be going that fast.
or
There's a mod on M3F where the guy modified the stock sunroof deflector (the silver strip that pops up when you open the roof).

Okay, now I'm confused
Is the noise when the sunroof is closed or tilted open?
The drawings make it look like when titled open--in which case there should be a howling noise
If it is while closed--then the drawings don't make sense as the sunroof should be flush with the roofline---mine is and no noise
sorry if I have misunderstood
Now, if you have a mazda 3 without a sunroof and experience this howling sound.....well you may have other issues:chuckle

Those drawings are diagrams of how the glass should look when closed. i over exagerated on the illustrations in order to display how the glass must be aligned in order for no wind noise when the glass is closed. In reality the gap is much less noticable but it is a common customer complaint (where i used to work)
