View Full Version : Noisy Brakes? Tires?
I bought a used 06' Sedan, with EBC dimpled and slotted rotors. The rear tires are stock and the front are Toyo's. When I drive I hear a pulsating scratching like sound, when I press the brakes it gets louder, however there is no vibration when I step on the brake pedal.
I took my car back to Downtown Mazda where I purchased it, and now they are saying that the upgraded brakes may not be covered under my warranty. I specifically asked them when I had purchased my vehicle if it would be covered, and they said yes. Unfortunately the person who sold me the car, now lives in Montreal and I can't contact him. They want to charge me $45 just to look at it. I really don't want to pay it, cause I think it should be covered by them.
Anyways, does anybody know what may cause this noise?

worn out brake pads?
I thought it could have been that too, but then it would be a high pitch noise, no?
I'm gonna stick my aftermarket tires and stick em on the rear, and bring my factory ones up front and see if the noise is still as noticeable. Maybe the tread pattern? Watcha think?

most likely your front brakes are shot tires make more of a whirring noise when they are loud and have uneven wear but you say a scraping noise i had the same noise when my rear brakes were done. i didnt step on the brakes but the one pad was in so far it was scraping up against the rotor. And it was noticeable.
If that is not the case I am not sure if the 3 has a rotor backig plate but if it does that could be bent a little out of shape and be scraping against the rotor. If this is the case then all you need to do is use a flat headscrew driver and push back the backing plate
If you wantt check the brakes yourself it is very easy unless you have steel wheels on your car follow the diagram. The brakes are measured in mm and tere is a tool to measure it but i am not sure where you can buy it

if you see that the backing part of the bake pad is very close or touching the rotor then its deffinatly your brakes.
hope that helps
Thanks McGuyver,
I'll try to check that later today. Great diagram by the way.

I had that trouble back in winter times
I was worried cause i have to drive back to campus through the snow
and ys I had to pay them money to take of the wheel to check it..
they said that it was the uneven surface of the rotors that's makign the noise.
or something like that
