Drive an 06 Mazda 3 GT with 17" rims.
If I buy used rims, what is the bolt pattern the M3 uses? Is it a standard for 18" rims?
My two rear tires were damaged by nails so I need a set of 4 news or 2 to match the Good Year OEM.
Anyone recommend a set of 4 tires for my 17's until I get the cash for some new rims.
Also what is the widest lowest profile i can use on my 17's so my speedo stays accurate?

get the nails pulled out will cost about 15+/- per nail to get them repaired

everyone is opinionated my personal; suggestion to you would be get your old tires fixed

The recomended factory tire specs for 17s are 205/50R17 but the lower you go in profile the wider the tire must be . As far as i kno you cannot exceed 225 size tires otherwise you will experience rubing issues

i beleive the lowest that people use is based off of an rx8 wheel 225/45R18 i am not exactly sure but i think it throws the tach off by +/-2-3km/h

once a tire is punctured it loses its speed rating even when fixed. I'd say fix them and drive safely. Then just save up for rims and new tires.

that is partially true if the tire is repaired with a regular push in plug then yes but if it is repaired with a proper plug from the inside then it does not loose its rating so ive been told. That is why all the higher end vehicles use the inside patches. It is alot more money to repair the tire from the inside but it does a good job

The tires were repaired once but the plugs have failed. On created a large gash in the tire. I guess my average speed of 165KM is hard on the tires.

theres your exact reason why inside patches should be used :P

One would think if you bring your car to the dealership (Mazda of North Toronto) and pay over $100 for the patch job, they would do the job right as opposed to a small garage.
I'm sure the service manager will give me some crap line so i won't waste my time. Yet another fine example of their great service...

Regular 165km/h driving on repaired tires? You are quite the daredevil, hehe.
Do you have winter tires? Maybe you should take it easy on your tires, get some winters and then save your future set of rims (sounds like you want 18") for summer.
Otherwise, investing in a good set of tires for your current rims I would say, is essential, given that you enjoy high speed driving. Lots of good tires out there, depends on your price range and purpose?

Thank you all for the help.
The great guys at Tires 23 cut me a great deal for:
SPYN JDX with Falken ZE912 225/40/18 - http://www.spyncanada.com/wheels.htm - click on JDX
Should have these installed this Saturday. They rock and this whole forum rocks!
Question?
Should I sell my slightly scratched stock 17 rims and buy 16" steels for the winter or keep the 17" and use 17" winter tires which I hear are very expensive?
Not sure what stock rims are worth. I heard $700 each new, is that true???

we removed the tire, broke it down, installed the patch from the inside, reinstalled and balanced the tire

Now I know for the future. Put a little to much faith in the dealership for that kind of stuff. One tires has a 2 - 3 in tear where the nail used to be.
Oh well, now I can justify the cost for the rims! :)

go with 16s for the winter the slimmer the tire the more you cut through the snow which will lead to better traction etc ec the wider the tire the more you will plow over it.
If you want to sell your rims that is totally your choice whatever you can afford

Is their any disadvantage to running steel rims besides the fact they are ugly? Will the additional weight cause stress, or the steel cause corrosion against the wheel hub? Not sure if they are both made out of the same alloy.
