...I have a nicely illuminated CEL on my dash.

I've owned several cars in my life [89 Tercel, 92 Supra, 98 Corolla, 99 Corolla <wife's car>, 02 Celica, 05 Corolla <wife's car] and never has a single one of them thrown an OBDII code within the first 3 weeks of ownership.

This problem is likely something that will be easily corrected [I have scheduled an appt to address this] but it sets a very unfortunate precedence and perception of product quality. In addition, I purchased a new vehicle in hopes of acquiring additional reliability and less down-time. This issue, albeit the first one, contravenes my assumption[s].

I hope this is an anomaly and a simple deviation from the norm. I trust the Mazda3 is reliable product with a well established dealership network capable of efficiently and quickly rationalizing these issues.

I’ll let you know what the dealership finds.

Stupid question.... but did you check the gas cap?

It is the single most common reason for a CEL.

dr1ft3r, you are correct; I was definitely a Toyota guy for the longest time. In my opinion, the Mazda3 exceeds anything that Toyota currently offers in the same price point. Although the Corolla is a reliable product, it certainly is not an inspiring vehicle. Hence the reason I elected to purchase the Mazda.

I was fortunate enough to have the car inspected and the CEL addressed. Dave Wood Mazda [DWM] did an absolutley excellent job in resolving this issue. In fact, having now dealt with them on two occassions, I am very impressed with their service and their staff [particularly a gentlemen by the name of Eric] is simply outstanding. DWM definitely understands Customer Relationship Management and the value proposition associated with service quality.

The repair, which required the replacement of the purge valve [corresponding to a P0441] was executed quickly, efficiently and without unnecessary down-time. They also went above and beyond to confirm if updates to the Engine Management were available.

The correction was flawlessly executed. Considering this experience, I would highly [!] recommend Dave Wood.
