View Full Version : Power windows and water

Ok--my first minor complaint with the Mazda3.

After it has rained or after a car wash, when I use the power windows it leaves quite a bit of spotty/streaked water residue on the windows. It looks like the rubber seals are not tight enough to keep most of the water out. This has happened on the other cars I have owned, but not nearly to this degree.

It also makes me a bit concerned regarding water getting into the door panels.

Anyone else experience this? Any suggestions--aside from keeping a cloth handy? Thanks.

All cars get water behind the door panel. There's drain holes at the bottom for just this reason.

Of course, less water getting by is better... :)

It is a pain in the ass and it has happened on all cars I have owned. I don't roll down the windows after a wash or rain storm until it has had a while to dry.

Yeah, it's just that the Mazda3 seems to have a lot more (compared to the other 5 cars I have driven, and not great cars either) water that gets in behind the door panel--and apparently stays there for a while--to then get onto the windows when rolled down.

Just wanted to know if there was a problem with just my car or if other people had it too.

you could use some Rain-X and most of the water should run right off.. kinda sucks to have to buy something for this but hey, it works wonders on the front and rear windshield.. you can grab a big bottle from walmart for like $7..

Always a good idea to clean the dirt out of that rubber too, when you detail. I forgot last time I washed my car and it wasn't fun when I rolled into a show and realized I had streaks :(

Do you have your windows tinted? sometimes crappy shops mess up the rubber lining when applying tint.

Its normal for all cars, but I can't say I noticed it being any worse on the 3 than any previous vehicles I've owned...Also if your worried about all the water getting into the doors you can do two things; one is have the vehicle oil-sprayed this will help dissipate the water and at the same time coat any metal, which will prevent rusting and two; make sure you check the drain holes at the bottom of the doors are free of any debris.

On my '05 3 it is far worse than any other car I have driven/been in during rainstorms. I have noticed on several occasions after heavy rains or long washes that there may be a sloshing sounds from the door.

I don't notice this to be any worse on this car then my others.

Perhaps run a bead of silicone along where the rubber is ~ LOL

Again...check the drain holes at the bottom of your doors.
