Hello,

I have searched this forum top to bottom and found little info on the Vancouver "door lock" problem occuring in T.O or if it even is a problem at all. I have asked the dealer and they have said they have fixed it in 2007 and above BUT apprently it can still be done.

I am wondering if the problem has happened to anyone. I rather not explain the problem and there is no need cause if it has happened to you, you know what it is.

I really want to buy a Mazda 3 but I am worried of the problem coming to T.O. The alternative is to buy a rice rocket civc.

Any input would be great. Thanks

the issue has been discussed a few times on the board. However, I have not heard of many TO cars being involved. Also remember, a thief can just as easily break a window if they want access to your car.

don't let something like this stop a purchase of a great car. that fact of someone breaking into a car is trivial. if someone wants in they'll get in and not always by the same means. for example older gen civics eg, ek up to 1998. these cars can be broken into very easially with single very concealable innocent tool in <~10seconds. the break in with this method does no damage and the car can be left back in its unharmed locked state as it was found. now, ive had at least 5 friends including me that have owned civics and had them broken into. only one of us was broken into using this method. others had their door locks pryed out broken glass etc.

what i am trying to get at is that just because this is a known cause to the informed, thieves generally aren't as smart and will go and do their own thing. bottom line is that our locks and security things only really stop the honest people, you have insurance and DON'T LEAVE VALUABLES IN THE CAR unless in a secure garage.

so go ahead, buy a mazda3, enjoy the way it drives and its great looks. get a civic if you want a not so fun car to drive with its its blend into the crowd looks and performance.

I agree with all that but...

IF I could of found the info from the past posts I would not have asked.

Thanks for the input from the others.. You are correct with respect to the civics.

I saw a 3 with the door banged in at the top 3 weeks ago. I thought what the hell happened. Then I remembered this topic.

wow reading this forum and the 8th gen civic forum makes it almost impossible to pick a car! Although the civic forum makes the civic seem like junk, while the mazda 3 is at least minor problems that are fixable.

aside from this door thing of course..

Both cars look really nice (to me) I am sure you'll love whatever one you pick. Yes the mazda has a lot of flaws (for me) but I love getting in it every morning and even after 4 years it still feels like I just picked it up from the dealer the night before. A blast to drive!

I think you'll find that ANY forum will pick out the flaws with the car.. thats just human nature.. :chuckle

we pay alot of money for our cars.. and we expect things to be perfect (not that that's a bad thing) but really we focus on the small things that are wrong in most cases.

I'm pretty sure they have solved the door banging thing in the new models.. and like it's been stated already.. if a thief really wants into you car.. he's going to get in.. windows break easily

get a decent alarm system to make it a bit harder for them to do it quietly at least.. or get a pager alarm so you can catch them in the act, but really nothing is going to stop them, and it shouldn't be the deciding factor on what car you buy
