Well lately i've been hearing some weird hissing sounds when i step on the gas. I know the sound is comign from the belt and pulley area. The sound is very noticible if i start it up when the car is cold. But after about 10-15 mins of driving it, the sounds disappear.
Any thoughts?
I want to bring it to MOT but the thing is by the time i drive it there the sound is probably gone and they'll just send me away cause they can't duplicate it. I live very close to markham mazda and agincourt mazda is kinda close by too. So anyone want to tell me what i should do?
Or i can leave my car at MOT but i need someone to drive me home cause its about 35-40 mins away from my house.
I have that too. Sounds like a light sandpaper sound. Mine happens after it sits overnight or at work all day and then start it up... It doesn't happen if I run into the mall for 30 mins then come back and start it up again...

Hissing from a belt or hissing from an air leak? If you slowly accelerate does it persist or is it drowned out by the acceleration.

it persist when i accelerate. But after 10-15 mins of driving and the hissing is gone.
& it isn't the sound of an air leak from a cai as I went back to the stock airbox.

So i went to MOT for my car today and they heard the noise. Apparently i had a work order for the same problem before and it happened again. They told me its the drive belt tensioner. The part is ordered and i will recieve a call to fix it when it arrives.
Sweet let me know if it fixes it...

I hear a hissing with my car too , but for some reason i think it might be my exhaust .... i knew it was a bad idea to get it welded !

hmmm a sandpaper sound... kind of strange.. but maybe unrelated... every so often I get a noise from the right front side of my car.... sounds like something just rubbed... but its only for a brief second and its gone.. at first I thought maybe it was my suspension or my tires but there is nothing wrong with either.... so I dunno..
I also have the same problem but I thought it was normal for our cars.
Same problem, but it not sandpaper like. Gets worse when the weather gets cooler. My guys said it was just regular belt noise. Bah.

Yup.....thast what happens. I brought to the dealer and apparently its a problem so go bring it in to have it check. But one problem is you might have to leave the car at the dealer over night or else they can't duplicate the problem cause by the time you arrive there the sound is gone.

update....so i got my car fixed today at MOT. As always, good service because stanley was there. He told me they replaced the drive belt for now and if anything happens again then i can bring it in and replace the tensioner again.
After leavign the car outside for 4 hours in this cold weather, i tried starting it up and everything seems good, no noise no hiss. So for now i'll just keep driving and assume everything is alright.
And any of you guys out there that have this problem at start up, go bring it in to check on cause it might cause your mileage to drop cause mine did.

I'm having the tensioner replaced under my extended warranty (woohoo I'm actually make use of a warranty) today. I had brought the car in during the summer b/c it was really making a very loud rattle type noise when first started and idling. Ofcourse get it warmed up or even driven to the dealership 5kms away and it was gone. So finally driving home from work it started to make a horrible noise under any acceleration so I drove straight to the dealership and they heard it. So far I've been very happy with Mississauga Mazda and highly recommend them if you're on the West side(eeee). I'll post after I get my car back.

I agree with miggiddy. Mississauga Mazda is a very nice place to deal with!

Did they replace the drive belt or the the drive belt tensioner? ...because its most likely the tensioner, there is a TSB on this and replacing the drive belt alone will only cure it temporarily.

Well i had this issue before like i mean few months back. They replaced my belt tensioner that time but did not replace teh belt. So obviously the problem came back. I went back in and this time they replaced the belt only. So far its been good but i guess i'll hvaet o give it a few more weeks to see if its 100% good.

Picked up my car on Sat. morning. The noise level (from under the hood) in general seems to have gone down. They did not change the belt, so it will be interesting to see if any noise comes back. And if so if it will be covered by my extended warranty.
IMO the belt should have been replaced. Wouldn't a defective or damaged tensioner cause some odd or premature wear of the belt? I don't know all the inner workings of it, but just figured it might.

They should be replacing the belt with a new belt tensioner replacement. Some tensioners are spring activated and some are fluid when a tensioner goes, two things can happen its not putting any tension on the belt allowing the belt to jump around freely, thereby causing excessive wear and stretching.Second and I think this is whats happening with ours, the tensioner is stiff or stuck and is putting excessive pressure on the belt, hense the sandpaper sound and this will definitely cause excessive wear to the belt.
So in both cases the belt would have suffered premature wear.

I have this problem, would I need to leave the car overnight for them to test it or will the automatically know the problem and fix it?

I didn't have to at Scarboro Mazda! They took my word for it and also the fact that they checked for any TSB's, which I had mentioned. They found one on the belt tensioner which fell under my VIN number...so I guess they needed the work and replaced it, no problem.
