When do you guys and gals slap on your winter tires ?

Anytime now, since most summer rubber get too cold to preform properly.

put mine on yesterday (as Patrick already knows) :)
but he is also right. it doesn't have to snow to put them on. the compound of the winter vs. summer tires is dependant on the temperature AS WELL AS... the conditions on the road.

Now's a good time if you're on summer tires. I'll be making the switch very soon.
If you're on all-seasons, make the switch when the average temperature drops below 7 degrees.

I usually put mine on in December. I try to max out the life of the winter tires so I put them on when I need too. Going on my 4th season with winters and still have tread.

I'll probably do it within a week or so but I need to pick up a cheap torque wrench and a decent floor jack first.

I did mine THREE WEEKS AGO at Tires23.
My RS-A's were leveled with the wear indicator, so I decided to play it safe.
Any ideas on how this has/will affect the condition of the winters? I drive about 120km per day and it hasn't always been around 7 degrees the past few weeks.

Put my wife's tires on her car this past weekend... holding out another week or two with the Mazda3

I'm sure everyone has re-considered when to slap the winter shoes on after this morning. That was brutal on some of the over passes.
Hope the tire shops are ready!
I put on my tires this morning after there were flurries last night, but some news casts are projecting 10 degrees next week.

If you own summer tires, then its about time to switch.
If you are running on all seasons, then you can afford to wait 2 weeks till the end of Nov (if you live in the GTA).

Put mine on yesterday.....Have about 50,000km on the original 17" tires and I think that is about it for them. Just about touching the wear bars.
I am running the Michelin X-Ice in 16" for the winter.

u might want to set it a bit higher, so you don't have to worry if the temp drops.
I'm running 40 psi on warm tires. normally its 36psi (warm)

ive put this car thru hell when it comes to snow. purposely driving thru heavily snowed on un plowed roads, it handles it like a charm...no comlaints.
...still on the stockers here, no winters just yet

I put mine on yesterday...and I have a question. Mazda said they torque them to 80psi but my bf's torque wrench only goes to 75 so that's what we did. Will this be a problem?
bubba1983

thats kinda low, i say just give it another half turn or something on each nut

Of course you are. All-seasons are ok when it's cold and dry, but they won't help you much in weather like today. This is the sort of day you shouldn't be on the road.
I always say... you can get away with all-season's in Toronto so long as you stay off the roads when they're crappy. This is one of these days!
If you can't stay off the roads on days like this, you should have winter tires. I had no issues at all this morning, short of being stuck behind people going way too slow.

+1... and they (ppl on 4seasons and drive uber slow) are the ppl that hog the fast lane. some dude actually went 30km/h on the 404 south bound in the fast lane. Some car purposely spray a shit load of snow on him from the HOV lane. He finally moved. Thank yo to the dude in the HOV lane

WW. I do agree with your point. But honestly I am getting a little sick of hearing you say "Stay off the roads or don't drive on days like these." Maybe the newbies don't mind it but you're becoming like my mother. :)

Ditto.
Driving in Mississauga's been good, no morons driving to fast or idiot too slow, mostly just cautious ppl leaving space.

It's not really that low, the manual says 66-86 lbs/ft.

I don't mind that at all. People should be cautious and leave space. But when there's 20+ car lengths open in front of you on the highway, that just means that everyone ahead of you is going faster so maybe you're over-doing it!

Well that is why i said it was good.. everyone was leaving about 3 car lengths.

yeah, haven't seen that in a while! especially during rush hour.
I actually made sure I had 2-3 seconds of space between, usually I just guess.

What are your tire pressures for your winters? Is 32 all around good?

Make sure when you pump it, that you pump maybe a pound or a pound and a half more bcause of the cold weather. Air compresses in the cold.
