I just noticed that my bumper on the passenger side is "sticking out". The small area right underneath the headlight does not line up. I was on a dealer parking lot the other day and i saw 2 mazda 3 sedans with the exact same problem. I did remove the bumper once to install fogs. all the other clip on the bumper locked in fine except that area. Anyone else have this problem?

Interesting. I've never noticed this. After checking my own car I'm happy to report I don't have this problem.

Its hard to ignore...its one of those little things that just bugs me.

It does suck cause the bumper has a 'D' shaped piece by the seam where it sticks out, which is held in place with a pinch piece on the car. The bolt that holds in the corner isn't enough. They (Mazda) should of just used a second screw in my opinion.

You did say that you improperly re-installed the bumper which caused this defect. So I don't get why you are upset at Mazda. Am I missing something?

I don't see him saying that he screwed anything up. My bumper does the exact same thing, but on the drivers side. It was like that before I ever pulled the bumper off.

I never said i improperly re-installed it. It was fine but it popped out afterwards.

Do you think its because of the outside temperature ?

dr1ft3r

I keep my car in a garage...I don't temperature has anything to do with it. Like gizmo said just need one more screw.

hmm....is this quoting feature working?? Let me try again:

I did remove the bumper once to install fogs. all the other clip on the bumper locked in fine except that area.

So if I understand correctly, the "clips" that hold the bumper in place was not re-installed completely (particularly the section which now has the problem). I've never took apart my bumper but I assume that these "clips" are to hold the bumper in place and maybe even prevent this from happening? So if you failed to secure all of the "clips," is that not your fault?

I guess I did miss something.

Sure its my fault..and "the large number of mazda owners who had the same problems" faults too.

When i re-installed the bumper. it looked fine. after a few weeks that piece popped out. Maybe the the clip is faulty or tends to come loose very easily. i dont know.

No, I didn't miss that. I took that with a grain of salt. You should consider the source before you take it as Bible. (No offence to Vlad. I'm just saying it in general)

I have to agree.

I did a search on the Mazda3Forums about this same issue and came across only one post of this same condition.

http://www.mazda3forums.com/index.php?topic=63108.0

Turned out the dealership replaced what was a broken clip and the problem was solved. If this was a "common problem" with Mazda3's then it would have been all over the site much like the "weak ac" threads are.

Hey man...hope I didn't hurt your feelings by questioning the possibility of this being your fault. The only reason I brought this whole thing up is because of your statement in your OP. I guess I should have disregarded that part of your post.

Haha naw you didn't hurt my feelings. anyways i doubt the dealer will do anything if i asked them about it. "You shouldn't be taking off the bumper blah blah blah. only authorized mazda technichian should do that blah blah blah."

Unless if you did something obvious (ie. add aftermarket fog lights) I would still try taking it to a Mazda dealer to look at.
Don't ask, don't tell.

Or Quick fix 3M tape

edit: Wouldn't be good if you take your bumper on/off regularly for mods

My drivers side bumper was offset a year ago when I bought my 2004 second-hand privately.
I figured it was caveat emptor and I chose to not to do anything
even though I found it a little unsettling for what was otherwise a fine car.
Now I notice the passenger side bumper is doing exactly the same thing
and frankly I'm disappointed in what seemed to be a well built car.

I'm going to take it into the dealer soon and I'll let you know how I fare.

mine WAS sticking out before i hit the racoon, but when the whole bumper was replaced by the bodyshop, its not sticking out anymore:) I thought it was a defect, untill i realized many people have the same problem..

got the same thing on my 07

take it back to dealer and they can have bodyshop check the clips - tell them to install additional clips if they have to...

i wouldn't settle for that on an '07...its not reasonable
