Hi, I was doing something in the engine bay yesterday, and I found that passenger side driveshaft has a bit free play if I wiggle it. Is this normal? thanks.

Where exactly did you wiggle it, in what direction and where was the play?
On another note, from seeing quite a bit of component rust, have you never oil-sprayed your vehicle?...

If i hold that rust metal w/ the red circle and move it up and down, I can feel the movement, a bit free play. I know it's cold now, but if someone can verify this, million thanks. It's easy to access, it sits right under the header and it can be reached from the top. Thanks.

I had the same issue with the free play in one of my driveshafts:

Loose Driver Side Driveshaft (http://media.putfile.com/Mazda3-Loose-DriverSide-Driveshaft)...listen for the clicking sound

Passenger Side Driveshaft (http://media.putfile.com/Mazda3-PassengerSide-Driveshaft-Solid)...no clicking sound

turns out it was the wheel bearing that needed to be replaced

I'm not sure about the clicking sound I heard in the video, it sounds like a motor was running in the first video. What were you doing in the video? replacing the bearing?

i was moving the driveshaft up and down exactly like you described in your 3rd post.

and the motor is not running in either video.

Did you feel some vibration before you replaced the bearing? Thanks.

varying symptoms to a failing bearing... mine was a droning/humming sound that one shop attributed to "bad winter tires"...even louder when turning (corkscrew parking ramp was a perfect spot to hear this at work)...and a "clicking" sound when driving while the car was cold around 3000rpm

Ok, I'll try to run it at 3000rpm to see if it has the clicking sound. If you don't mind, how much did it cost you to get it fixed? Thanks.

your rpm may vary....but keep an ear out for it. for me, i could hear it in 1st and 2nd gear with about 25%-50% throttle.

i got mine done under the extended warranty. last i got a price on just the front wheel bearing itself, it was ~$120-140.

IIRC, i think there's also a TSB on the driveshaft play.

Tomorrow I'll go to dealership and give it a shot, and tonight I'll try to hear these clicking sound when I drive. Thanks again.
