Hey guys, I've just gotten my mz3 a few days ago. I was backing out one day, and I noticed a weird braking sound. Is this a normal occurrence during the cold winter time? This also happened to me after work with my car sitting outside in the parking lot.
I think it goes away a few mins later. Any thoughts?
If you mean the rough metal on metal grind/squeal. Yep that is normal. I know some of us with older 3's had our brakes fixed... but I think the newer models already have the updated parts.
I guess you could try. Mine used to happen in the cold, damp or 1st time I hit the breaks in the morning.

haha but I drive a new 2007 mazda3 though... I would assume they have updated parts in them like you said. But yeah, if the sounds get any worse, I am gonna take it in to check it out... make good use of my warranty!
Ya I only added the part about the older 3's because I didn't know if you picked up a used one a few days ago or a new one... now I know :)

Glad to hear Im not the only one experiencing this. I purchased a 2008 Mazda 3 Sport last week and for the last few days when I back out in the morning the brakes squeal... Only seems to happen the first few times I feather the breaks and then it goes away...

i called MoT about this earlier; the service folks say it's normal for the brakes to squeak like that when they're cold. i've been hearing intermittent squeaking when the brakes are supposedly warm too, so we'll see what they say on Saturday morning when i go in.

just got back from MoT (thanks, Jeff!)...don't have my car with me, but that's another story.
they said basically the same thing i was told over the phone: the brakes squeak when they're cold and/or wet, and it's a normal thing when you first drive in the morning. they even have a sign on the service desk explaining the issue.

i had them look at two squeaks..one from the brakes, and one from the suspension. the suspension squeak was the front far-side lower control arm. it's being replaced under warranty. it should be ready later today..

glad I found this thread because I literally JUST had my rear brakes done for over $200 (machined, new pads) and heard this as well. I was freaking out and about to call Mazda until I saw this thread. Hasn't gotten any worse so I guess I shouldn't worry. Only happened a few times in the past 3 weeks sincs I got my brakes done.

mine happens all the time, i don't really care, just its only the first time i depress the brakes, on the 2nd/3rd pump, its fine.
It sucks when you're trying to leave with a good impression. Girls aren't exactly a fan of the squeel :p

the small things like squeaks and rattles annoy me greatly. i know over time it's normal for stuff in the car to come a little loose and start rattling squeaking, but it shouldn't start after just a year and a half. it's kind of annoying too to find the brakes squeak when they're cold; all the other cars i've driven haven't had this problem.
I don't mind to much, because a lot of Bimmers have this problem. I'm generally impressed with the 2.3's brakes so I'll put up with a little bit of cold squeek.
