View Full Version : Modification: Do you have problems with your Angel Eyes in winter?

I've noticed that the angel eyes are more dim and take longer to fully light up in the cold weather. Interestingly, I saw this modification on a bimmer forum a few days ago and thought it may resolve (or at least help) my problem.
I did the modification this morning and they do seem to warm up quicker and more uniformly. They seem brighter as well.
It's supposed to become -11°C tonight, so that will be the ultimate test. Seems promising and makes logical sense.

Hi,
Can you provide some more info? What happens to them in cold weather? From what I've noticed so far, they just take a bit longer to completely light up.

from my experience, over the course of the winter, they seem to have deteriorated ...eventualy not working..(for me) or the rings cracked, or the ends get all black....etc..
im jus playin it safe this time around...

Here is an update... The angel eyes warmed up really quickly last night when it was -6°C.
I think this is a worth-while mod.

So basically that guide has you cutting the ballast out of the loop and wiring the angel eyes into your lowbeam circuit?

Nope. You are just hardwiring the ballasts to the angel eyes. Basically removing the black connectors since they cause some resistance and "loss" of voltage.

Ah, see that makes a lot more sense. Thanks.
