Is anyone else having trouble starting when it's cold out? I mean it happened 4 times in the last 2 weeks where my car won't even turn over (no sound at all) and I'd have to try and start it 3 times before it would.

To top it all off one on the wiper motors (driver side) broke and now I don't have use of them. :bang

If this is the "Winter Spec Windshield Wiper Motor", "Heavy-duty Starter", I'd hate to see the trounle the people living in the northern States have to deal with.

My car is a Sport GT Auto.

not sure about the wiper, but have you checked your battery level? not enough juice in the battery means it won't be able to run the starter motor, and colder temps tend to affect how much current a battery can produce. if that's the case, i would check and make sure your battery is getting charged when the car is running.

I've only had the car for 5-6 months the battery shouldn't have run down in that time as all my electronics are stock and it's not a constant issue (yet) but I'm going to have the dealer look at it when I get the wiper motor replaced. I hope it's just the battery level and not something more serious.

Damn it, no appointments till Monday, going to have fun if it snows and I don't have use of my wipers...:bang

Definitely take it in to check the battery and alternator. It shouldn't be hard to start in this weather at all.

I mean when its REALLY cold, like -30, its gonna be somewhat hesitant at first but it shoud'nt be a problem... Also the wiper thing should be covered under warranty. I left mine on auto one time when it snowed and it stripped the shyt out of the inside of the wiper arm on the drivers side. They replaced it, no questions asked. No more auto wipers in the winter for me lol

always clear the snow of the windshield before starting the car, but you are right about auto wipers, leave it in the off position and make sure they are off when the car is parked before shutting the engine off. You are lucky the dealer fixed it under warranty, what dealer?

A bad battery is somehow common on new cars.
So, even if you had your car for only 3 months, when the temps are as low as -30 and you car does not start, then the battery is weak.

Car's under warranty, just get it replaced.
An alternator on a new car is not likely to be problematic.

I went to Ajax Mazda becuase I live in Pickering. I was surprised, because anyone whos ever been there knows that they are pretty much a-holes about any repairs and never want to cover them under warranty.

I've had mine have a rough start few times this winter but nothing serious. Although the battery issue might be the cause, i cant be sure though because i have a "red top" which im sure helps.

I hate the f'n winter. The first time my mazda didnt start this winter I called roadside assitance, the guy came gave me a boost and I thought that was it. The very next day same thing (didnt start at all), they sent out roadside assistance again, this time the guy checked out everything and found out the battery cables around the terminals were loose (hence why when i got a boost the day before I couldnt start it the next day) anywho he tightened the cables and I was good to go.

But yea... our cars shouldnt have too much trouble starting in the cold (assuming your battery and alternator are fine)

I also found the cold starts to be a bit sluggish...that's why i bought a block heater; now the car starts as if it were summer!
