So I thought I'd post my thoughts on my drive in this morning.

Our subdivision was iced over completely. As I drove out to make it to the main roads I came upon a guy in a Denali basically weaving to either side of the iced road. Why you ask? Simple really....he was over compensating to correct every slide and ended up making each slide progressively worse than the other. He was making it worse by fighting the vehicles tracking control at every turn. I slow down to give him some space and the slides right front first into the snow bank. At this point he's perpendicular to the road.

After I could see he was alright I smile and carefully pass him and make my way to the major intersection. As I approach the car waiting there in front of me (Lexus) I can see in my rear view mirror the Denali has managed to dislodge himself from the snow bank and has continued to drive in the schizophrenic manner. My Spidy sense kicked in and I put my car in reverse leaving about 15 feet between myself and the Lexus in front of me. I looked in my mirror and sure enough the Denali passed the point where I could see he could safely stop and not hit me. I turned to the right and went into a driveway, quickly rolled down my window and watched him slam into the Lexus and then watched the Lexus go into the intersection. The intersection was clear so nobody hit the Lexus.

I got out to see if both drivers were ok and they were. I left my business card with the driver of the Lexus in case he needed my statement and went back to my car. The guy of the Denali asked me why my car wasn't sliding all over the place like his car was. Why he had so many driver aids and it still didn't help him keep control of the car. I thought about it and then looked at him and said.

"Do you know the author Douglas Adams?"
"No."
"Well he said once that the problem with making anything idiot proof is that it under estimates the ingenuity of idiots."

He smiled and just looked at me. I smiled and looked back and said.

"Exactly!"

haha, the ending is classic. As for the incident itself, your car and your insurance company are thankful for your spidy senses.

haha!! nice.. smart thinking by getting out of the way too man!!

so many morons on the road, especially the SUV guys.. they think that no weather affects them. on Sat. night I have to drive from 400/hwy 7 area in that storm back to Oakville.. and I can't count how many idiot moves I witnessed. When I got to the QEW, a couple of said idiots ended up running into each other just ahead of me... it was a small miracle that they were the only two cars involved.

I don't understand it.. we live in a country where this type of weather happens each and every year.. and yet 90% of people don't learn how to drive properly in snowy conditions :loco:bang

I thought about this but the truth is every time I see or hear about accidents like this I cringe because if enough people behave like this our collective rates as an insured group goes up. You end up paying for the stupidity of others.

As b3GS mentioned idiots are everywhere. I'm amazed that many people that drive SUV's never adjust their driving style to suit the conditions. They automatically assume that the $80,000 they've put down allows them to drive during winter conditions as if it was summer. To be honest I've noticed people with winter tires driving around as if it was summer.

Good storey, you are like me. I always keep an eye on whats going on all around me and leave room so I can move if needed. I will say you were very nice to that guy. Id have called him every name in the book. Come on now, why was his car doing that? Becuase hes a ****ing idiot and can't drive. I love those guys in the big 4 wheelers flying around when its snowing. And most of the time they are the jack asses that cause accidents. Thank good my 3 is in the garage all winter.

Good job in avoiding a big headache...its just a shame that he still had to hit someone and not a pole or something of the sort. Its funny how many SUVs are put into ditches when the weather goes to hell.

A courtesy honk for the Lexus would have been even better. ;)
Was the Denali on worn looking all seasons?
I'd suggest a geo metro engine swap for the winters. They can probably handle that instead. ;)

Wow
Good call on getting the **** outta the way!

I cant even begin to think what must've been going through his head. At this point I have no sympathy for this person (only that innocent Lexus).

Nice one..it's amazing the mentality of people who think that if they buy themselves a SUV, they can handle any type of weather...fools.

I think its the same when guys buy really hot looking cars. They think that now every women now wants to have sex with them. I've had my Mazda3 for almost two years now and apart from my wife I haven't had sex with any other women.
