I've just had my car in for its 24 month maint. I'm now getting a squeaking noise when I have the car looking for torque at low RPM in high gears. i.e when traveling about 60km in 5th and coming to a small hill.

One the car goes to higher rpm and isn't fighting for torque to push the car, it goes away.

It sounds like a belt squeak, but it's hard to tell (Started after tightening belts ??). I've read some users getting similar squeak from the drive shafts.

Any one else have similar problems? It wasn't happening before I took it in, so I'm going to have it looked at, but I wanted to get as much info as possible, before I start yelling ;-)

No idea, but I'm assuming you're still under warantee so I wouldn't worry to much.

Take it in.

The first question I would ask is Why are you running your vehicle in 5th gear at 60kph going uphill?....Talk about putting unnecessarily excessive strain on your engine!!....not to mention drive-line.

Try dropping it a gear or two when your in those situations cause, believe me you go yelling that story to the dealer, they'll probably turn around and ring your ass....and they would be warranted.

Its and Auto ;-) If they ring my ass, I'll be putting my foot in their's when I them to fix my tranny if its not shifting when it should.

The Auto's get into 5th really early and hesitate before shifting back to 4th or 3rd. This is the exact point I have my issue, when the car doesn't have the RPM to give the horsepower I need. Trust me, when I drive in Sport mode, the only time I'm under 2K is when I'm at a stop sign.

I believe the '06's and up are 5 speed Auto's

I'm pretty sure it was an option for 04 and 05s

I had a similar problem with mine back in October. I told my tech advisor that I heard a squeaking noise (almost unnoticeable) when I'm in 5th gear (automatic btw) at approx ~1700RPM and when launching like a grandpa at a stop. They solved the problem by replacing the tensioner and ALL the belt. Since then, everything is ok! :)

Sorry thought you were a stick and was not aware 3's had a 5sp auto...cool,

Anyways yelling would get you nowhere, cause the problem might not be related at all with the service that was done.Maybe its just the tensioner, belt like Nova said, as for the gear change problem maybe just a update will cure it.

Sounds exactly like my issue!! Did you mean "all the belt(s)". Was it all covered under warranty, including the belts?

I'm fairly sure it was only 06's and up. (CX-7's have a 6 speed auto w/sport mode, if you don't watch the tach, you don't even know it shifts...unless you hammer it)

No worries! Hey if it was a manual, your right, I would have deserved that comment! ;-)

Uh yeah...sorry about my grammar! :blush And yes, all the rubber belts that touches directly or indirectly the tensioner have been replaced under warranty. I guess that they didn't want to take a chance. I applaud them for this! :bana2 :bana

Yeah my dealer which is Mazda Three Rivers (real spelling in french: Mazda Trois-Rivieres). I don't think you want to make a 700km trip just to get your car service here! It will be VERY expensive on the gas! :chuckle :)

You should try another dealer.

I had the same problem with noise when first starting the engine and also when revs got up when the engine was still cold...I'd get a sandpaper like sound in idle and the occasional pig-squeel when revved.Took it to Scarboro Mazda yesterday had the Belt tensioner and belt replaced under warranty. The TSB requires the belt be changed along with the tensioner...so far, no noise after several cold starts....Looks like the tensioner was the culprit.

Hi everyone,

It sounds like my car is doing the exact same thing! Mine is a 2007 4spd Auto (GS). I currently have about 30,000 KM on it. I occasionally hear a faint squeaking sound when the engine is running ~ 1500 - 2000. In addition, the whole transmission feels sluggish...I have a hard time passing people on the highways! I did bring in the car last week to Mazda of Toronto. I told the service rep (i think her name is Kay) about it and I even said I suspected the tension belts/tensioner as being a potential cause (after reading this thread). In the end, She told me that they needed to upgrade the computer program for the transmission....and that they didn't have the new software yet (I would have to come back in 3 weeks to get the new update). I was quite disappointed...I now have to wait 3 weeks for this new software update (which doesn't seem to be the problem) and it didn't sound like they even looked at the tensioner belts at all. Any thoughts anyone? Can anybody suggest a service rep from Mazda of Toronto who they actually have confidence in?

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Try talking to Vincent at Mazda of Toronto. He's been there for a while and knows a lot. He could probably help you out more.

Thanks, I'll give him a try. Is Vincent a service rep?
