I bought my Viking Snowtechs when I had my 05 Mazda 3 because the 17" Eagle RSA's were terrible. I now have a 07 Mazda 3 that came with 16" tires which seem a lot better than my Snowtechs that I just put on last night. I only used them in 05 for about 8,000kms so the tread is still very good, the only think I can think of is they have been sitting since early 06' and I didn't check the tire pressure, so its probably low. Anyone have any comments on why these tires are not working out very well for me, anyone know the rec. tire pressure (for the snowtechs)?

Thanks,

No sarcasm there... I had the Proxes on the 3, pure raw garbage even in rain.

Oh sorry, I misread, you think its tire pressure?

Definitely check the pressure. The snowtechs are very good tires for the money you pay. I can't see how either the Toyo or RSA, regardless of how old they are, could complete with the Vikings.

Maybe.... put in 36psi

The Snowtechs are soft with spaced out treads... I think 36 would suit them well.
I ran 36 with my Kumho KW19 which I think are similar in type of tire compared to the Snowtechs. Anything lower and the tire would just fold over and not bite in as much in curves.
Get a good air gauge as well and make sure the pressure is accurate. Last thing you want is uneven pressure in the snow and slush.

Give it a try...

Well, the Vikings are much better than the Toyos now, its amazing what an extra 25PSI will do... hah.

if we assume he put in 35 psi, that means he was at 10psi?
Glad u got that issue fixed man!!
remember to check your tire pressure at least once a month
(ur suppose to check it weekly, but in the cold I check it bi-weekly to monthly)

The worst was 6PSI the best was 14PSI, they looked okay so I didnt think of it.

How long had you driven on them like that? I'd keep a close eye on them. Hopefully you didn't do any damage.

About 15kms, I totally forgot to check it.

lol - the groaning noise, sluggish acceleration, and perhaps veering off to one side wasn't tell-tale :p

j/k

That reminds me... I gotta go check mine...

I have Viking Snowtechs too, they are not bad for the price I paid.

I got the Vikings this year and so far I'm pretty happy with them. They do struggle a bit in the thick slush but very good in deep snow. I have them at 34 psi right now.

Definitely very good value for the price you pay. I would recommend these to someone looking for a good affordable winter tire.

I purchased the Vikings last year and only found them wanting in thick slush and only managed to put about 6k on them last winter. So far this winter thru the last two storms they have been awesome even in slush, they got me out of my work location parking lot and home safely this past Sunday and Monday morning in style...Anyways best part about these tires is the way they feel; ride, handling etc; thier pretty damn nice for the money.

...and I run them at 33psi, excellent traction and got 550km off my last tank-full.
