My 2004 3 with auto transmission sitting outside for 8 days without moving. When I came back from Hamilton to Toronto, the car and steering wheel were shaking violently when it was up to 90 kph. It was like that for half an hour. There was no warning light. After that it became normal. No more shaking. So I think it's not because of alignment.

I checked the tire pressure this morning. It was only off by 1 to 1.5 psi. No more shaking when I drove on highway over 110 km/h.

Do anyone have any idea what happened? Was it because the tires were sitting outside too long? My tires are Michelin X-ice.

I actually had this exact same happen yesterday when I was on the highway. When I got up to 100, the steering wheel and the gas pedal would shake alot. My calf muscle was getting quite a workout! Not exactly sure why this happened, as it never happened before.

My car was sitting outside for maybe an hour max, was warmed up before I got on the highway. Also AT and on snow tires if that makes a difference. I think I'm going to give it another run today.

This can happen if you get a chunk of ice or packed snow in one or more of your wheels. Essentially, you end up with one or more wheels ridiculously out of balance and when you hit a resonance, you'll feel it like mad.

Since it went away, this may well be what happened.

I knew there was a reason I knock the snow from around my wheel wells. And I thought it was just me being neurotic!

This happened to me yesterday as well. I stopped and got a car wash. Still, there was plenty of ice around the wheel wells. I used my ice scraper and cleared out all the snow and ice near the wheel well. Word of advice, you don't need a car wash to clear all the snow off!

Thats most likely it. I went on the highway again, and had no problems at all.

Definitely could be ice around the wheel wells. My car was rumbling pretty bad when I plowed it through snow and left it over night.

Anyone else get that satisfying feeling when digging all the crap from the wheel wells? hahaha

I went to a 2 dollar co-operated car wash and washed the crap out. It felt good, until my 1/2 cleaned car got dirty again, lol.

Not in the wheel wells... in the wheels themselves, between the spokes and what not.
