I got a mazda 5 gt. i am currently running the stock rims, but my car is lowered with S-tech.
i have them. 17x6.5" rims +52.5mm offset, on the stock tires. 205 50 17
i was wondering. would 17x7, +42mm offset on 205 45 17 rub at all? if it works for mazda 3's it will work the 5.

Off the top of my head I would think you'd want an offset greater than +42mm; probably between 45-48.

As above, +42 will rub. +45 should be ok, +48 to be safe.
Dang people stop lying!!!
It will only protrude approximately 16mm towards the fenders and there for should work on your 5 if the fenders are similar to the 3. Also keep in mind that most people are pushing around 18-23mm towards the fenders on common setups and are not having problems. I for one was pushing 23mm to the fenders with no problems, the type of tires will differentiate by about 1-3mm. I dont see you having a problem especially considering you will go down to a 45 series tire too.
Just for those looking at offsets etc. Do no get wheels that will shorten the gap between the wheel and the struts by anymore then 15mm's. 16mm-17mm might be okay but I would not suggest it... I am 80% sure that you would rub with something that shortens the distance by 18mm+
**IMPORTANT**
Now for everyone that read this thread, with a 7" wide wheel you can go with a lower offset like that, it is when you get into the 7.5-8" wide wheels that you will need 45+. Also keep in mind you can go with different tires to prevent rubbing as well. For instance running a 215 instead of a 225, or even looking at different brands. Falken tends to be making all their newer tires very squared up compared to others like Kumho, that can make a difference of anywhere between 1-3mm varying. Of course camber is another way to prevent rubbing but at the moment only with the rear.
Here is an offset calculator that you can use to check what another tire setup will do.

*there is a better one but I just cannot find it right now*

Does all of this info apply to the Mazda 5? Does anyone know for sure?
mazda5 didnt share the same platform with 3, not sure about the offset ect.... 205/45/17 in 17/7 42 sounds ok but dont lower, what do u want to do with a van? lol......
I do mention in the post "there for should work on your 5 if the fenders are similar to the 3" The reason I created the other Important information post is for those that do not read the whole thread and will start assuming the wrong information.
Best of luck with your wheel hunt!

my mazda 5 is getting a turbo set up. the dealership just recently got a scrapped mazdaspeed 6 engine, with turbo + everything. the block was cracked and there was a giant hole (btw. the turbo on the speeds are small) so i'm going to snatch things from it
i believe the 5 and 3 are sharing the same rim dimension. because we both get the same space in between the tire and the fender. and yes..the 3 and 5 share the exact same platform. just the 5 is 1 feet longer. i'm currently runnig tien stech. i already picked out my rims. enkei rpo3 17x8 +48 offset. and i'm going to run 215, 45, 17 tires. also painting the rims black, cause my car is black. : D
Sounds like you have some great plans, good luck with it all and please keep us up to date. Would love to see pics and how it turns out.

bad news. the mazda 5 is going to take longer to get the turbo set up. i cannot just swap the block over because my non speed block will not work with the speed internals as one of my mechanics said. the cylinders are titanium sleeved, forged pistons, forged crank. ..pretty intense....a fully mazda built race engine. so instead, i will find some bigger turbo. i just bought a T28 ball bearing nissan silvia S15 turbo from a VVT SR20DET motor. hahaha its gonna be fun.
Have you looked into purchasing a Mazdaspeed built motor?
