So I now have BOTH Rx-8 rims and Speed3 rims and need to decide which set to keep.
If you've had a chance to try both sets on a sedan could you throw up some pros and cons of each set using 225/40/18 or 215/45/18 tires?
The 3 is my daily driver and has no engine mods. I will be installing a Pro-kit and camber links soon.

They both weigh about the same. Now it just comes down to what style you like. For a sedan the multi-spokes of the MS3 look better IMO.

I'd be interested in the RX-8 rims if you decide to sell.
Thanks

Go with the Speed3 rims and sell me your RX-8 rims. :chuckle
Seriously, I'd be interested in the RX-8 rims if you should decide to sell them. But in answer to your question I think the RX-8 rims look best on the sedan.

I too will get rid of my powdercoated rx-8 soon...Jeezz everybody's got them.

It seems like every other member of the mazda3forums has them; here, not as many members.
Since I've been on this forum I don't recall any FS threads for Rx-8 rims. I was lucky how I found my set.

Meh...I had them back in 2004 and was probably one of the first people in the GTA to have RX8 rims on my car. You don't see me complaining.

I actually prefer the Rx8 wheels over the Speed3 wheels. Both are nice though.

Rx8 wheels, for sure.

depends on what are you trying to go for your car...
Black is very aggressive so the RX8 would be perfect
the speed3's on a sedan of any color IMO give it a euro type feel due to its multispoke desgin, so its still a mild agressive look but not as agressive as the RX8's
I would honestly like to see those speed3 rims on a Winning blue sedan...it would make the blue look euro classy :D
so with the drop you got, go with the RX8 rims and add some black racing lugnuts, Blox makes a nice set that would look nice....

I'm bringing this back because I'd like to know if you guys feel a noticeable handling difference between the 6.5", 7" and 8" wide oem rims, as well as the 205/50, 215/45 and 225/40 tires.
Anyone?

speed6 wheels look better and are cheaper for the sedan

Id keep the Rx8 Rims for the Sedan they look sweet.... look @ Hums car for example
i ran rx8s on my black 04 mazda3 sedan (back when not too many people had it). I didn't mind it, i thought they were really awesome but i think speed6 wheels would be better. the offset on the rx8 wheels with the extra width of them makes it more prone to rub unless you move to a tire with less width... which leads to easier curb rash and also a kinda wierd look (the wheel lip protrudes further than the tire)
I found the tire grip to be the best part about the rx8 wheels, but i think it'd feel more agile with a 7" width.
err sorry, i wasn't talking about the speed3 wheels, my mistake

no matter how common they are the RX-8 rims, i think look the cleanest on a mildly lower 3

Resurrect to avoid creating another unnecessary thread about the same debate.
What would you guys say bout RX-8 vs. Speed on a Black Hatch...?

Go with the RX8 rims. They are lighter by a couple of pounds too (compared to the Speed3 rims) and wider as well

Good to hear as I am possibly gonna score some RX-8 rims. If I do, I'll have some snowflakes and some aftermarkets to sell.

Anybody else? I have opportunity for both. Price difference obviously between the two....both would look awesome but after seeing ST3ALTH's thread, the speed3 rims may look too sick to pass up.

IMO Speed3 rims on a sedan looks hot. Go for those, especially if you can get 08.5's or later. Or get any earlier set powder coated.
The RX8's look too similar to the earlier Mazda3's 17" 5 spokes from more than a lane away.

I'm looking for opinions for a hatch. I just used this thread as opposed to creating another one on the same topic.

If the price is where I want it at, I'll grab the MS3's...after looking at many pics, they more suited for the look I want to go for. Especially since I'll powder coat em black.

I think I'm gonna go with the speeds. Seeing St3alths thread with his black mica hatch pretty much changed my mind.

See, the RX-8s I'd prefer if I had a sedan as well...We'll see how the Speed's look if I get em and powder coat em.

Or try and get the gunmetal MS3 rims from the 08.5 or 09 versions. They are closer in colour to the RX-8 rims than the MS3 rims from the 07 models.

I'm rockin the RX-8's now however I'm considering getting the speed3 just to mix it up and see which of the two I like more. The RX-8's definitely give out the aggressive look which is solid.

I remember the day my Dad brought home a brand new ’66 Barracuda. While such an auspicious automotive occasion would make any Sting Ray-riding nine-year-old pop a wheelie, the ‘Cuda arrived on the same day The Green Hornet made its TV debut. Both productions proved equally fantastic. Plymouth’s fastback was an effort to sex-up their Valiant sedan with the equivalent of a low-cut party dress. Trouble was, the girl underneath was someone you could only really appreciate for her personality. How times have changed. To wit: the Mazdaspeed 3, an example of what today’s boffins can do with a basic economy car.
It's immediately apparent that Mazdaspeed's go-faster bits have been added with minimum effect on the donor car’s exterior. The subtlety of the makeover is either a testament to changing priorities or an indication that the project team blew their budget on Gold’s Gym. Not that the regular five-door Mazda3 is bad looking. A two-box wagonette in the modern fashion, the 3 projects a chunky, confident persona. Its rear fender sculpting is one of the finest mass-market details on any car extant. The speed racer version offers not much more than a lowered stance, slightly reshaped hood and bumpers, 10-spoke alloys and a prominent rear wing.
Wha?????
Anyways, I have the MS3 rims and off the 07/08 model year. Will be powercoating in the new year. Just love the way the wheel wheels look with all those spokes! Not everyones style.
