Let this accident serve as a lesson to those that just got their license and a reminder to those the experienced drivers.
In short, kid asks about rough shifting when flooring the car. A day or two later he died.
OMG WOW... that is a weird chain of events.

Yeah, that was really sad to read.
If it had been some punk on the highway, I wouldn't even feel bad for him, but as it stands I find it really tragic. I mean, he was off on some runway somewhere, obviously trying to have his fun in a safe and responsible manner.

This is sad. It's a shame his father would let him have the vehicle till that time in the morning to begin with. Also having 4 passengers with him during the crash makes it all that much worse.

Saw this on another forum yesterday. Glad that he wasn't recklessly street racing or something, he tried to do it in a controlled manner.
I can't help but think that he was still stupid though. He should not have been trying to start trying to push a beast of a car like the m5, not when the both the driver and the car are new (the car apparently was barely broken in). To add on this he took 4 other people with him...
Tragic indeed.

Agreed, totally tragic. What's almost as bad is the forum members thinking he's a 'troll' and not taking him seriously. How bad do they feel now huh?
It's bad that it wasn't just him thou, and a bunch of his buddies.

I'm reminded of the Top Gear episode where Jeremy was driving a Zonda or a Konigsegg or something and doing a top speed run on the runway. Even he had to set up braking markers so he'd know when he HAD to slow down.
With as little experience as that kid had, there's no way he could judge the amount of distance he'd need to slow down from high speeds and by the time he realized that, it was likely WAY too late. :(

wow
clearly the kids was an idiot, seemed like a nice guy, but was an idiot.
some people never pay for the idiocy some pay forever and some pay with their life.
i would say i am glad it happened on an airstrip and not on the regular roads, but if it was on the regular roads it wouldn't have happened in the same manner.

It is sad to see someone semi-responsible die like this.
Semi because he was responsible for doing this on a strip, and irresponsible for taking passengers with him.
As WW said, even in broad day-light someone experienced like the crew on Top Gear needed a sign as a reminder. It was at 3am for this guy.
Jash, you don't have to sign up to see those threads.
