Ok,

So I've got some cupped tires. after a rotation from rear to front I found out quite quickly that those two tires were cupped. I believe this may have happend due to bad rear shocks, which I may have replace.

1. If I were to put the cupped tires back to the rear to minimize vibration and just drive them without ever rotating them again would I be okay?

2. the other idea is I just keep rotating often deal with the vibration and hope the tires will eventually wear in?

3. Or am I just screwed, and I have to buy new tires.

I'm trying to avoid putting stress on my car and save my tires.

What exactly is a cupped tire?

Its uneven wear on your tire. If you spin it and run your hand over it while it spins you'll notive some dips in the tread.

Main causes is: not rotating your wheels enough, bad suspension, alignment (camber&toe).

When I put the tires on the front it feels like an unbalanced wheel. Some vibrations at various speeds. Badly cupped tires make a periodic whoomp sound.

Can you compensate with tire inflation? Over or under?

I've heard that overinflation is the way to go, although I'm not sure what PSI I should use. My tires are not that badly cupped. The cupping is not visible, you can only feel it.

i'm going to take it in to the dealer and get some advice. i've got to take it in for brakes this week so I'll see what they think.

My rears were cupping too in the inside of the tires. Took it in for an alignment, all four corners were toed out - meaning the insides are the leading edge of the tire.. causing cupping.

Get your alignment.

There is nothing wrong with driving on cupped tires. It just sounds funny.

sure there is... "cupped" tires means that alignment or camber is off. While it may not seem like a big deal driving on these tires are not safe as there is no grip or reduced grip on that part of the tire... therfore like UOU said.. its a very bad!

I would get an alignment done (make sure you get a before and after print out), make sure your tire pressures are set to Mazda specs (on your door sticker or manual 32psi I think)

Being as your talking inside wear on the tires (how many km's are on them and what size) I would look at a few things..

Do you often have a lot of weight in the rear of the car? Even a sub box weighs a bit and changes the geometry of the car. If you run a lot of wight in the rear of the car....well then a few extra psi in the tires may help ie: 34-36 psi....don't go to 40 though or you'll wear out the center of the tires and the car will ride like a brick.

More than anything cehck your tire pressures often, rotate EVERY oil change (Both MAzda and the TIRE company sudgests it), and have your alignment checked every year. $90 for an alignment can save you big $$$ down the road if your wearing tires off
