Wow! More details please.
I thought the LEDs used way less power so you figure something like this would not be possible unless it was one of the regular bulbs in there that shorted and caught fire.

Well that's obviously a factory defect. It's covered under warranty.

I've never seen ANYTHING like that!!! :loco
If this doesn't get covered by warranty I'm guessing nothing will. Glad it didn't spread any further. While its hard to see anything positive in something like this, you're prolly lucky it was on the left side rather than right (just thinking about where the gas cap is...)

I've only seen one case like this where the customer replaced the reverse lamp bulb with an aftermarket one and it caused the lens to melt.
I assume your bulbs are all stock?

It's not much more than a scratch. I'm sure it'll buff right out. :chuckle

They don't give new cars for that sort of thing. It's unfortunate... but once you buy a car, it's yours. I'm not sure whether we've got lemon laws like the US does, but even there it takes quite a bit to get them to take a car back once you've signed the papers.

Maybe its that new aluminum wiring their using on the 08s' :chuckle ....j/k.
But seriously, I think he has a good case for a Brand new vehicle, depending of course on what they find caused it.But nevertheless what if its bad wiring? Whats there to say it can't happen again?, can they absolutely guarantee it won't?, so with that kind of argument in mind who knows, its worth a shot.I personally wouldn't feel comfortable in that vehicle again.

If it started in the tail light... and they replace the whole assembly (which of course they will since it's a pile of ash now) then it's as good as new. It's not like the electrical system sent "too much power" to that light or something. That's not how it works.
For what it's worth, derek, they should be able to fix that all up good as new. It sucks that you have to go through this, but your car should be fine in the end. Just ensure they replace all the affected parts.
hooooly, it seems some one has BBQ on the trunk. is anyone hurt?
