Today my cel came on again, randomly. I think it may have something to do with my fuel evap system because the last time a cel came on it was for a purge solenoid and a slow valve leak somewhere and the dealer installed a new purge solenoid.
since then i have bought a can/OBDII reader since i refuse to pay the ~$90 diag fee and because i can do most things myself. The problem i have right now is that the reader at home in pickering and im at school in Hamilton. Is there anyone on the Hamilton area with a code reader willing to help me out? i promise to pass the karma along when i have my code reader local to me.
thanks

Sounds like the leak detection pump. I would get a code first though to make sure.

i dont have a code yet but im trying to find the ldp in the online service manual; ive looked through the emissions control and the fuel system directory and i can seem to find any info about it.
FLIPDADY, whats the warrenty on the 3's emission system? just want to know just in case i do end up bringing it to the dealer. also, if it is considered a "fuel system" component, would that be under the drivetrain warrenty?
thanks

hmmm. may have been a fluke cel. i have disconnected the battery and reset things, the cel is now off. i have driven it around a bit all ready making a bunch of trips totaling ~200k and still no reoccurring cel.

from Mazda
emisson control componets for up to 8 years or 128,000 km. Exclusion from coverage are limited to maintanance items or adjustments (repairs not requiring parts replacement) on vehicles over 12 months old and repairs due to normal wear and tear . Ask your Mazda Dealer for additional information.
Good choice to ask here but always follow up with the service manager.

Yeah understood but the part is a fuel system component.

Those particular components are part of the fuel system. Parts such as an EGR valve would be part of the emission system.

For the 8/128km warranty (from the Mazda webiste)
Emission Defect: Only 3 components are covered: Catalytic converter, Electronic Emissions Control Unit (P.C.M) and the On Board Emissions Diagnostic Device.
Basically nothing else is covered....no purge solenoid, no egr's no leak detection pumps, no 02 sensors...
Best to ask your local dealer....
