You can actually do alot of it yourself depending on what you plan on getting and how much is pre-built. Especially if it's a din kit you don't need anything more then to fit brackets. A shop can help you with wiring and electrical (equivalent to amp kit install)

I think Audio Heaven does this stuff.

I asked audio heaven and Jeff said no pc installs...
I asked a place called tecomputers.ca and they wanted $300-$500 for an install for a car pc package that they provide... yikes... unless that is supposed to be reasonable...?

I recall hearing that selective sound has done custom car pc installs.

seems reasonable to me since they provide the unit itself (mind you I don't have any experience; just the price sounds good with a unit provided assuming it's a decent unit)..

Just to clear things up because after reading it, the clarity was questionable:
The unit provided costs extra and is not included in the install price of $300-$500...

lol.. ok.. that makes more sense..
wow.. $300-$500 for an install.. seems a bit high to me.. if you have the parts already I wonder if McGuyver -> http://www.torontomazda3.ca/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=201
can do it.. not sure if this is up his alley but doesn't hurt to ask..

ummmmm, if you already have the system...
what exactly are the parts used...the car pc install should be identical to a audio system...
that is maybe

quite easy to do on your own.. IF you have all the parts necessary.
done on toprotege.com (http://www.toprotege.com/forums/showthread.php?t=35914&highlight=carputer)
With my experience, i fount it to be not worth it, simply because of the costs of said parts.
You'll need a proper power supply unless you don't mind noise through your system when using a power invertor.
other annoying things that get in the way are audio connections. computers have 1/8" out and amps have RCA in.. and the longest 1/8" to rca i've found is only 12ft. also doing multiple connections you run into noise.
also windows is not very friendly when it comes to little screens 7" and user interface.
I installed winamp and blew up all the icons, but still the text was impossible to read.
and lastly.. you have to buy a 2.5" harddrive. The vibrations and G forces resulted my 3.5" harddrive failing twice. Not so much the physical drive, but errors when windows tries to write.

WHOA 320 WATT converter!! How's the secondary battery recharged? You have to be close to using up all the extra capacity on the alternator...
