Took long enough... I say there is absolutely no excuse. None.

Manitoba led the way since 1999 for tough laws against drunk drivers:

I Absolutely Agree with this law i have been drinking A lot of times lately....... uni student ..... and have never considered drinking and driving. I Always sleep over and crash or u have the DD. Also in My High School many kids used to drive high which IMO is just as bad. the stats show to last year there were 4 accident with maybe the 30 kids that drove last year. Is the law the Same in Ontario i know they run that Ride program quite frequently

Just this weekend a 15 year old girl lost her life being the passenger in a car driven by an alleged 17 year old drunk driver. Everyone knows it's wrong but if you do some research you will be shocked to find how many drunk driving charges are fought in court and get reduced if not thrown out. W5 did a great special on this. It has to do with challenging the breathalyser equipment.
If society as a whole is serious about drunk driving and zero tolerance then the laws should reflect it.

I agree with you but as we know this will never happen. Since he's 17, they should bump him to adult court because if he's tried in juvenille court, all he'll get is a slap on the wrist.

^ Agree whole heartedly. There is no excuse for drinking and driving and there should be no liniency for those who do. I've been in an accident, head on, with a drunk driver before, good thing I was strapped in with the seatbelt let me tell you, walked away having to do only 3 mos. of rehab for my back. So excuse me if I have no remorse for those who decide to hop behind the wheel when they can't even walk, toss them behind bars and make them serve some time, stupidity isn't an excuse!
Hmmm, I think this is also in effect in Ontario as of this Wednesday?

I'm going to take a wild guess that your back is not "back to normal." So you end up with a life time of discomfort all because some fark-wad didn't know when to stop drinking. I'm sorry but these people forfeit their rights to EVER drive again. If they want to make mistakes that cost them their lives I have no problem with it. Hell, I'd give them a lift to the cliff they'd want to drive off of. The problem is THEY insist on affecting everyone else's lives.

Good assumption Cardi, you're right, it's never been the same since the accident. I'm in total agreeance with you, I'd even rent a car for them and leave it at the edge of the cliff, walk them over to the front seat and send them on their way. I can't stand ignorant people:flaming

Yeah I agree with you guys as there is no excuse for ignorance. I'm surprised that Ontario hadn't passed a law against drunk drivers sooner.

Hmmm Garu??
In Manitoba we've had tough laws against drunk drivers since 1999. I was wondering why Ontario lawmakers sat on their fat asses til now to follow Manitoba's laws.
There is no excuse for drunk driving at all.
No the government needs to put up sign up and down the 401 :p

cuz the ontario government rather go after "street racers" instead of drunk drivers.... besides let's be honest they aren't exactly the brightest crayons in the box... To me this law just makes sense, finally a stiff penalty to the idiot who decided to put other at risk. This should have been in place a long time ago instead of giving them a slap on the wrist!

I agree... maybe like the one on the DVP?
I was serious about upping the law, but the signs i was kidding about. What a waste of money.

I don't think its a waste at all... they have it on those electrical overhead signs on the 401 and they are all over the place on the 404...
Yea but I mean those 50 over signs...I forgot how much but those signs cost the government a ton of money. The other signs I have no issue with.

Canadian law is a joke. I was in Montreal this week-end & hear on the radio a guy was caught driving drunk 14 times. 14 TIMES!!!! They finally put him in jail for 3 years & suspended his license for 4 or 5 years. He should have a life time ban.
Canadian law have no teeth, this is why most people don't obey them. I say they should put them in jail for like 5 days for a first offense, then increase it for every following offense. After the first time, they'll think twice before D&D.
