I just had a question about the stock speaker wire that goes to the door, I was looking at changing the stock speakers and I was wondering if the wire that goes to the door can handle 100 watts RMS speakers because it said somewhere on a different forum that you have to run larger cable to the door so that it can handle more powerful speakers, so all I wanted to know is do I have to run lager cable or is the stock cable good enough.
I was looking at getting 6 ½ Alpine Type R’s 100 watts RMS and a Alpine 4 channel amp at 90 watts RMS
Thanks
Ned,
for your question, stock spealer wire will be just fine for that setup.
Technically, all speaker wire will handle all kind of "watts" b/c the watts is the rate for speaker itself <== how much power speaker can handle. but samller gauge speaker wire will give a less resistence, therefore you will lose less signal and keep S/N higher lever, the result is you will hear more acurate sound.
Will we hear the difference? i can hear the difference from my HiFi. from a mazda? i dont even border to turn on the music in that nosiy carbin.

Ned,
I would suggest if your going to spend the money on Type R speakers and on a quality amp, why would you not upgrade the quality of your wire? ...I think its a no brainer....and don't worry, you will most definitely hear a much improved sound quality by upgrading.

I wasn't talking specifically about the wiring, it was more of an overall sound difference comment. If you don't think investing in better quality sound equipment is worth it or noticeable because of (cabin noise), you should listen to a few systems people here on this board have, including mine.It might change your mind about your thinking!...also to make a point, better wiring will give you better sound for reasons such as; less signal loss and less interference just to name a couple.I'll agree some people might not notice any difference but some will, just like some find the stock system good enough, others find it quite lacking.

i thought that you just misunderstood whatz my point here. i didnt mean if you change the nice amp and spekers wont change the sound, but the sound will be not noticable with different wire (with same amp and speakers). i am not car audio fever guy, but i am high fever in HiFi (digital A/V receiver is not recommand on this), thats totally different story when you listen to my setup.

I get what your saying, but I still disagree! Have you seen the quality of the oem speaker wire in our cars? Well okay you have the speed I would assume the quality is slightly higher with the Bose system, but in the regular 3 the wires suck! ...A big mistake some people make is to neglect the importance of wiring.Grant it in not all cases will you hear a difference, but the point here is for this person to get the most out of his equipment he would be better off getting proper wiring not just for reasons already mentioned but more important, to handle the extra capacity!...With your home system would you use lamp cord to power your speakers? that is the difference we're talking about here.

my point is why dont let him try it then decide? nothing will lose, beside that he may save some $$$.

Thanks for the help guys, i am still not a 100% sure if i will run lager cable i think i might just try putting in the speakers and seeing how it sounds if im not happy with it i will run larger cable, but i would like to know is it hard to run larger cable and is there a tutorial on how to do it ?
Thanks
Ned,
runing larger speaker wire is not too hard, but its hard for sure, and make sure adjust the phase of ur new speakers :)

Ned,
Hey its up to you about the wiring but all I'm saying is, since you'll be putting in an amp and speakers (don't forget the LOC), everything will be apart (door panels etc;) its just a good time to do it! ...speaker wire is not alot of money...also I can't remember if there is any walk-thrus written on the board, but you can always search.

I know that the wire will only cost me like $10-20 more but it looks like a lot of work to run larger cable and i dont want to f**k it up even tho i would like to do it, and what is the LOC i know that it has to be installed but what does it do ?
found this on how to do it http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/showthread.php?t=123687372

Ned,
i just found one for you.

its not only the s/n ratio which is already pretty high due to the level of signals to the speakers. but a lot of the crispness and definition that is gotten from heavier gauge wire with lower resistance is the damping effect. A good amp with a decent damping factor should appear to the speaker as a short circuit. adding series resistance through speaker cable can take the nice high damping factor of a nice amp and destroy it as it can no longer shunt any back emf as the speaker travels back to its rest position. also resistance in cables will mess with crossovers quite a bit too.

ok so i think im going to try and run larger wire to the doors then, also just a question when i get the wire to the through to the door and to the speaker where does the other end go? its not to the amp right but to the back of the deck ?
Thanks

You would not hear the difference if you change your speaker wire. You probably might hear a slight difference if you play the volume at level 25+ on an Alpine deck, but I doubt your going to drive around playing your music at that level for long periods. Save your self the time and extra cost from changing the speaker wires. Factory is fine.

Ned,
You will run the head-unit speaker-output-wiring (lf, rf, lr, rr) to the LOC, then from the LOC to your amp.
Your speaker wire will run from your amp directly to your speakers. So the length of your wiring will depend on the location of your amp.Try to run them isolated from any other wiring (especially power wires), as not to pick up any interference-(another reason for better wiring). Also you want to run your main power wiring (low guage) for the amp apart from other wiring.

Ned,
You don't really need a tutorial, your just connecting the HU speaker wires to the lock...pretty simple, but I believe somewhat of a schematic will come with the LOC.

A LOC should come with wiring details but if it doesn't, it will basically be LF (+ and -) and RF (+ and -). That's what you would be tapping into.
Keep in mind that if you fade your audio mainly to the front, you do not want to connect the LOC to the rear speakers since they will be putting out little to no audio. Coonnect it to the fronts.

Is there a way to upgrade my sound to Bose, how and where do you do that?
since this thread is pretty much related to my question hopefully u guys can help me out with this. i wanted to put in door speakers but remembered reading the mazda3 has a small stock amp. i was wondering how many watts it pushes? so i can just buy some 6.5"s and swap them in, i'm trying to get around buying a new amp!

Actually only the MS3s and some 2008 3s have the BOSE amplified system. Yours should not. I have 6.5s in my doors and they sound a lot better than stock. I'm not running an amp either though they would sound even better with an amp.
They won't swap right in though. You will need to make or buy an adapter to allow the speakers to fit in the stock location.
hmmm, i see. what size speakers would fit right in? i thougth the stocks were 6.5's how many watts are your door speakers? thanks

5x7 or 6x8 I think are ones that swap right in. I would definitely do 6.5s though as they produce a better sound. I think mine are 120W Max and 40W RMS. Nothing crazy power wise but sound pretty good.

The HUs on the Mazda3's are pushing a wopping 18.5 Watts RMS per channel:chuckle
Thats not enough to run any good quality speaker for proper sound...imo.
