I have a Canon Ixus 750, around two years old. I kept the camera in my pocket while I was on my trip. THe problem with the camera is now the lens won't close and when I turn it on it shows E18 at the bottom left corner.

I think the camera might have tried to open when it was in my pocket cause it makes a really ugly noise when I try to turn it on.

Thanks.

Gears are probably gone on the lens. Try looking up the error code online or in the manual. It can probably be fixed at a local camera shop.

hmmm..E18? Not sure if the error code is the same but I know some Canon point & shoots had a defect that caused that. LIke 3GFX said, try googling it.

EDIT: More info for you. There's a wiki entry for it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E18_error So it's not officially a defect...just a lot of people happen to get it.

That's exactly what mine shows right now. E18 I'm out of warranty and I went to a few shops, no one is willing to fix camera's. I found a guide online but I'm not too comfortable with opening up the camera.

You know where I could bring it to?

Can you contact Canon?

I would definitely NOT recommend taking the camera apart yourself unless you really know what you are doing. Chances are it will cause more harm than good.

If you bring it into Canon head office (they have a customer service area) they will be able to take it in and look at it/fix it. It may take a few weeks or more to get it back, since of the high volume they deal with, but it's miles better going through them, rather than sending it in through Henry's or any other 3rd party dealer (Henry's typically takes 8-12 weeks to get a camera back to you).

I have 5 Canon cameras and I take all of them into Canon and have nothing but good things to say as a consumer and professional.

Thanks for the info, I looked into bringing it directly to Canon too. But I'm generally in London; that's why I wanted to see if I could get it fixed elsewhere first.

You can call Canon and see if you can send it to them. I know they offer free return shipping after it is repaired.

What's the price to inspect and repair? 100? I've got a couple year old one that developed lens gear problems after a winter trip.

You would have to call Canon. It's product dependent for some costs, and then you have parts/labour cost on top of that depending on the problem. I've had repairs range from free to $400 for various things, even non-canon in the past.

I just called Canon, they told me they cannot give estimates through the phone even when I provided the error and camera model.
So you either have to send it through mail or go there yourself.
He did say the repair cost would never exceed the cost of the camera though.
