Hello, this was a mild ongoing issue with my car (2007 GS Sedan), the suspension was making a weird clunk noise when going over potholes. Now this noise is when I drive on any type of uneven road, it almost sounds like the rear suspension is bottoming out (i know this is not happening, but its what it sounds like. Any ideas? Thanks.

First thing I would do is check to make sure the sway bar is not loose.

definitely the sway bar end links. I had the same problem in my celica but once i tightened it, the noise went away.

Yep... your description sounds like what mine was doing with the sway bar loose. Easy enough to check and fix.

I also noticed some noise in the front passenger side wheel area....it sounds like a suspension problem...I can only hear it when I drive slowly in the parking lot that is uneven or slowly over mini bumps/potholes....took it to the dealer and reproduced the noise for them...they could not find any problems with the suspensions as they claim they did all the tests in the workshop....they then told me that monitor it for sometime and if noise gets worse then come back....I recently changed my winter tires to the stock ones and seems like the noise is less but its still there and can be heard over speed bumps.....

It's in the back under the car between the rear wheels. You can lay on the ground and tighten the end links with a socket set. Just look for the big bar.

Maybe someone will have a pic... but really, if the car is new and you're not sure what you're doing, just bring it in and let them take care of it.

thanks got the idea....the noise that I have in my car is from the front passenger side so I dont think i have a problem with the sway bar....

There are two, one for front and back. Problem still can be the sway bar.

Have you checked that your spare and/or jack are not loose?, (or anything else back there)? ...its more likely then it being the sway!

Hey! My hatch is making a clunking sound too...

It's from the passenger side at the rear. I've removed everything from the back and it's still present. I only notice it over rough patches of road going at a slower distance. If it is the sway bar, what would cause it to loosen off??

Just like everyone already said, it's likely the sway bar endlinks. Easy fix.

Took mine to the dealer today and they torqued down all the suspension parts in the rear and have ordered some stabilizer bar bushings. Hopefully the new bushings shut things up because torquing the parts didn't help....At times it sounds like something back there is about to fall off...

This is just what I noticed, but could it be the trunk plastic cover of the spare wheel rattling? I notice mine is not really locked down and when i put it down it makes a similar noise to what I hear going over bumps.

I had everything out of my trunk, except the spare and jack, and it still made the noise. The bushings are in and will be installed tomorrow. I will post up the results...

Well I got the bushings replaced and it's still making the noise...Any other ideas?? BTW I've pulled everything out of the trunk except the spare and the jack...Both are in tight...

An update...Noise is gone...

Took the car in again today and they fixed it...

One of the new bushings had popped out so they re-installed it and took the car out for a road test. The sounds was still present so they adjusted the cross-member. Test drove again and it still had the sound. They then replaced the drive side end link and took it out. No sound! I've driven the car and I concur...It looks like it is fixed...

Just had a thought....Could hitting a wicked pothole cause the end link to wear prematurely??

yeah I just got my rear driver side endlink replaced as well. I hope this won't be a recurring problem. anyone else with this issue?
