went to mountain mazda (hamilton) this afternoon to get my ssa75 (shock sensor) and ssp75 (doorkit) recall and they said they will fix the oil pipe for me too (apparently had a history of corrosions?) which apparently was another recall i was eligible for (on my 06Mazda3GTsport). all three recall fixes were free of charge to me; took a good 2.5 hours to do tho!

i can't find any more details of this ssp74 than this, not mentioned elsewhere in this forum or on google that i could find!!

go figure, just FYI

"oil pipe" is it the pipe that the dip stick is in? I don't understand?

i think it was explained briefly to me as a pipe coming out of the auto-transmission that was becoming corroded on some models. i have NO idea which years/models are affected!! on my work order it says 'ssp74: AT oil pipe recall'

I heard it's 04-06 and I'm not sure if any '07s are affected. It is a piece that is part of the tranny. Maybe Joe or Jeff can chime in to clear things up.

Oil cooler pipe on the A/T only. Prone to corrosion so Mazda will replace it with an updated one. Won't apply to all cars though. You will get a letter if your vehicle is affected.

More the reason to check with Mazda Canada to see if they have your recent address.

I didn't get a letter, but when I brought my '04 GT into MoT to get the door plate, Joe noticed that I needed to get it done as well.

I'm going to call Mazda to make sure they have the right address too.

I also did not receive any notice from Mazda. I suspect whether there's actually any letter issued. I went to the dealer last Saturday for oil change and was told about the SSP74 and SSP75 recalls. They were done on the same day. My car is 2004 MZ3 GT.

I didn't get a letter for this recall but Avante took of me last week by putting the new oil pipe on for me without me asking about it.

Got this recall done on my mom's 07 on Monday. I had no clue what it was till the service manager told me. I thought it had something to do with the door.

edit: and I have an 05 sport gt

I have not received anything from Mazda on this. I have a 2007 Model. I will be taking it to another dealer anyway since Dave Wood ^%%$

Depending on when your car was built you may not need it done. This was done at the factory on mine. Yours might be the same.

Most people haven't received a letter from Mazda about this recall. They just do it at your next service. I would ask about it though if I were you. :)

Mine is a 05, had it replaced when the dealer did the door plate and shock sensor a couple of weeks ago. But didn't get a letter

I got a letter on Wednesday to go in for the oil pipe.

Does the door plate and shock sensor apply to all M3's and do you still have to be under warranty for them to fix it?

Same question for the rusty wiper arms...

No letter yet for me and to be honest, I think Mazda is afraid of me because I complain too much :chuckle

I got mine done on the 20month inspection recently....I didnt get any recall letter of the SSP74 (AT Oil Pipe)...i was told at the dealer that there was an update from mazda canada for some models to replace oil cooler return pipe with corrosion resistent type....

I did get a recall for the SSP75 (door lock thing).....both SSP74 and SSP75 were done free of charge....

Its better to know what part is replaced.. Dont like staying and waiting at the dealer of a hour, and dont know what part is replaced.

The pipe is about 3 inches long.....it bolts to the tranny houseing then makes a 90 degree turn and then has a hose attached to it. Its really nothing to look at. The shape from the original has not changed, it seems that just the coating that is on the piep has changed. Really it is nothing special to look at. Takes about 10 mins to change.

most likely if yours if an auto....just call your dealer and ask if your VIN is within the ssp....

Got my letter today...

Got me thinking...I never received the "Second letter" telling me to have the door plate installed. Is there any other recalls I should be aware of? Might as well get it all done at the same time.

Is there a quick way to check my vin against all recalls?

Azi

when you take your car into the dealer, they should scan the VIN to see if there are any other recalls that need to be done. it wouldn't hurt to ask them if they dont.

I took my 2006 3 sport into the dealer yesterday for my 24K service and they did the recall repair. They charged me $38 for the labor. The part was free... I feel like I got screwed :complain. Has anybody else been charged labor for a recall?

I'm going to call the dealer tomorrow... maybe to let them know I don't care for the service... I'll be doing the routine stuff myself from now on...

Thanks folks...

As far as I know, there should not have been a charge for the recall service. I took my car in a few weeks ago for the 2 recall services(door + oil pipe) and wasn't charged anything.

It was Erin Mills Mazda. No mistake about the labor, it is against SSP74. Unfortunately it isn't the only inappropriate charge and it isn't the first time. I was quoted the $144.50 for the 24K service. Add some sundry parts and $190 would have been about right. I paid more than that for the recall and then some. Maybe it was just a mistake, but I did mention it, and they pretty much blew me off... Are other dealers like this as well?

I recommend you go back to them and tell them....when I went to the dealer for my regular 4months service, they told me that there was an update from mazda canada on the oil pipe and also the door thing...they fixed both of them with no charge and they told me that its free....dont be rude to them but tell them what you have heard and see what happens....

I will try as you suggest, and I'm usually way too polite as opposed to being rude... Since this isn't the first incident, I am leaning towards not going back anyway. If I'm not happy with the dealer I will write to Mazda for what its worth. Kind of a shame because I really like this car...

Contacted the dealer on Wednesday and they say they made a mistake on the extra charges. I'm still waiting for the credit back on my charge card though. Not out of the woods yet...

I will post how this works out one way or the other...

All Mazda3's had the door cylinder reinforcer & engine oil pipe recall (automatic mazda3s for the oil pipe). However if your vehicle is a late 2007 model theres a good chance the reinforcer was installed prior to your pick up:) if you would like to know if your vehicle is needing the recall to be completed you can send me your vehicles info & I will definitely check into it & get back to you. I know the notice says it takes about 30min for the recall but it is averaging on a 40 minute repair per recall.

I had the SSP74 *unofficially* done myself since this is canada only... the parts themselves are cheap and I justify doing this because my 3 may see canadian roads at times

but in the spirit of being a good canadian expatriate, I'm going to share where the part in question is installed and what was changed....

the original style part is just unpainted and being that it is just zinc plated, it can't survive prolonged salt exposure... the new part is painted black (mostly) and hopefully salt won't eat the paint through to the zinc plating either

see pics here (since there isn't a way for me to post attachments here :( ):
