So i took my car in to MOT because I was experiencing vibration in the steering wheel and gas pedal + hissing noises. I thought that the vibration was due to snow build up in the wheel well and the hissing noises were from that timing belt tensioner recall.

Well, after having my car checked out by the tech, it turns out that my engine mount was cracked :S and the hissing noise was from my intake? I still need to get that hissing noise assessed, but the engine mount problem really scared me.

For those of you wondering my car is a 2005 Mazda 3 (yes, I know, its in the sig).

Just thought I would give the rest of you guys a heads up ... seeing as how I have seen quite a number of posts on here regarding vibration and shimmying of the steering wheel and it being written off as simply snow in the in wheel.

Hmmm...thats just a bit scary.

I've been getting increasing vibration (and I did have some TERRIBLE vibration on 2 occasions this winter with snow in my wheels - I know this was the case, because after having it sprayed out, the vibration was gone).

I haven't heard any hissing noises, and I don't think I've felt anything wrong with my pedals, but I'll make sure I keep an eye on it. Once I get my new tires on in the spring with alignment we'll see if it calms down.

Is there vibrations only at highway speeds, or even at low speeds?

It all depends on the amount of snow and how much is stuck to one side of your rims. The weight differance can be noticable at low speeds. I've had it happen where it doesn't vibrate until above 100 and then vibrates like a Quarter taking bed in a cheap motel.

is the engine mount part of 5 year tranny/engine warranty, or 3 year only?

I remember there was a TSB on the engine mount or something.

However depending on how you get it checked, the dealer might charge you. I'm not sure which part of the warranty it is covered in.

The work done on my car was covered under warranty (i am at 79600 KM, lol)

There was vibration all the time , both low and high speeds. However, it was more noticeable when driving on the highway.

Was it the motor mount on the passanger side near the coolant bottle. Its a fluid-filled mount and is prone to breaking... they arent very good at all.

I am waiting until Street unit comes out with a replacement.... I am on #2 in my car also :)

Hmmm.. My car is at westowne right now having several things replaced.... Thank goodness its under warranty!!!

But one of the replacements is the engine mount. Mine isn't severe as some of the members here, but I did notice the car very laggy couple of months.

Thought it was the weather.
