So now that spring is (pretty much) here, when do you all plan to put on your summer rims/tires?

The nice sunny weather we have been having the last few days is making my itchy to get mine on soon. :)

For rims/ tires, I'll be waiting till the end of April and reassess at that point. Take into consideration it snowed on and off right into the 1st week of May last year.

But as for everything I stored up for the winter (ie. exhaust, springs, strut bar, gauge pod), it's all going in asap :bana

mogul_pro
03-17-2008, 02:34 PM
Ya I stocked up brand new rims and tires, sways, springs, short shifter, just ordered some led tails...

Can tell ya right now I won't be able to hold off until May... lol

at these temperatures your winters are likely gonna give you as good if not better traction.
and it is snowing today (tuesday).

I'll check the long range forecast in April.

Waiting for the average temperature to be over 7 degrees, but I'm going to summer tires. If you're going to all-seasons then you just need to wait for there to be no more snow. For summer tires, you need to be concerned about the temperature as well.

March 29th my winters are coming off. I'll lose way too much tread on the winters if I leave them on any longer, they get no grip on dry road and just spin like crazy up to 3rd.

I am taking a chance here. I switched over this afternoon. Not difficult really. I did it in my garage. Burr.

Took about an hour. I hope I torqued'em down right. 90 ft/lbs.

However. Although they look good, I am begging mother nature to keep her snow.

Should be ok. Car was only 3 months 5000 +kms when I switched to winters.

My ice tires are so soft to begin with, car does not handle that great in the + weather. Worked great in the snow though.

well ill be getting my summer tires mounted up on rims this weekend. ill probably wait another week or so before bolting them on though.

looking at the statistical data from the weather network april only has an average of one day with snow and its less than a cm. in all practicality it would probably be safe to make the switch early april

How are those who put on their summer rims and tires already? How was the drive into work? Another 5cm of snow expected this week. Goodluck with that.

Why people are in a rush to put on their summer rims and tires is beyond me. With the temps at day time highs of just above 0C, your summer tires won't even stick to the ground. Not to mention all the salt and grime that will get on your nice summer rims.

Wait it out...what's the rush? There is a lot of time to be pimpin your summer rims.

Anyone putting summer tires on now is either stupid, or has something else to drive when it's cold.

I had contemplated putting on the summer tires but then I noticed the forecast calling for snow on Tuesday and Thursday. As someone else mentioned, I think it would be best to wait until the average temperature is about 7 degrees.

On a side note, last night I took the car through the car wash at about 1030pm. Went to a friend's house and when I came out at 1am the car was totally covered in snow.

I don't think I would've made it home without my winter tires.
