Anyone considered 225/45/18 or have this rather than the more talked about 225/40/18 for MS3?

225/45/18 is something like 1.3% faster than speedo

vs

225/40/18 is something like 2.1% slower than speedo

what do you guys think? wouldn't the 45's be closer to spec?

Yes, the 45's are closer to spec, and that's what I'd get. 225/40/18 is talked about more here because that's the proper size for the regular Mazda3 (non-speed).

i will get 235/40/18 for mine. they will fit without rubbing for sure. i have tried them on already(my friend's its BFG's on +45 offset), therefore they will fit even you have light drop such like <1.2" with out rubbing.

225/45 would make your warranty last 1% longer :)

Good point...you must be Chinese like I am...lol...[relax, I REALLY am Chinese...]

In terms of drop, if I'm going with the Cobb's, it'd a MILD drop at worst...and since I live in the city, having the tire 1/4" taller but with a 0.8" drop, I'm hoping the car wouldn't be too low anyway... I think I should still be able to get onto the driveway at work.

Sorry to revive this.

I am looking to run 225-40-18 tires on the stock 18 x 7 MS3 rims.

These will be going on a 3 Sport.

Most tire specs I have read indicated a 7.5 inch wide wheel is required to run the 225.

Are there any MS3 rim owners running 225-40-18's?

Why does Mazda always cheap put and put skinny rims on their cars?

Also, I am considering running Racing Harts from the MSP which are 17 x 7.

Interestingly, 225-45-17's are OK to run on a 17 X 7 inch rim, so why wouldn't 225-401-8 on a 18 X 7?

Thanks

225/40/18 for regular3 is perfet, but for ms3 is too small.

from 205/50/17 to 225/40/18 is 0.06% slow, thats perfert.
from 215/45/18 to 225/40/18 is 2.07% too fast. which will thro out ur oddometer quicker than what you have drove.

and 225/40/18 need 7.5-9.0 for safe, but someone said that size will fit fine on 7", but i wont risk that.
