Engine Torque Damper 2005-08 Mazda 3

MSRP: $200.00

The high quality WEAPON*R Engine Damper mounts in between your vehicle's engine block and firewall to effectively control horsepower and torque. Keep your motor supported as you slam through those gears while adding a nice showpiece under the hood. Creates less stress to engine mounts, giving you more power to the wheel!

Hopefully not an April's Fools joke from Weapon R...

WeaponR Makes low quality stuff... thats not going to do anything but add a stress point and put more presure on components not built to tolerate the loads. Which equals higher levels of wear and tear and something breaking.

ETDs are pretty straight foward designs....its not all that complicated....SCI made some before as well. Their dampers are likely just rebranded items and the brackets are made by WeaponR. Many Mazda3 owners have them on the US board and many love them. Its just a different route to eliminate wheel hop than engine mounts.

They are in addition to Motor Mounts. I have a set of SCI brackets, and will grab a damper soon to make my own set ;)

Hi all,

This is my first post. I have a 2005 Mazda3 Sport in Arctic white.
Have added Mazdaspeed CAI & exhaust.... great!
Also added Nexen N3000 225/40/18 w/ Enkei RZ5 18"x7.5" wheels... no rubbing!

I am very interested in the Weapon R Engine Torque Damper.
The clunking, slamming, banging sound when acceleratinh hard off the line or banging 2nd gear is awful. In the wet, I have scared my family with the sounds.

Had different 3 & 4 mounts put in by the dealer that I found from a US recall that was to do with vibration but it didn't do much... but a bit better. (Mazda Service Bulletin 0049).

I'm hesitant to try the AWR mount because of the vibration issues I've heard of but would really like to try this Weapon R Engine Torque Damper.

Anyone else feel the same? Maybe a group buy would be good.

A ETD will stiffen your motor a lot. It wil help with traction/wheel hop . There will be an increase in cabin noise and vibration.
In regards to your clunking noise, slamming noise when accelerating or shifting into second gear, are you smooth in releasing the clutch in a timely matter when accelerating?
A ETD will not help jerky shifting.

No offense but I've been driving a manual tranny for 37 years inc. motorcycles, muscle cars, tractor trailers and assorted Japanese cars inc. 1988 Corolla GTS, 1992 240SX and this is the first vehicle I've had that exhibits these traits. I know that this car has the most power I've had to put through the front wheels but it would seem that once the drivetrain is unsettled that it continues in that mode. If I can't drive the car hard when I need to then it's not truly worth my time and effort. Maybe I have to go back to rwd so the front wheels only have to steer. As my login states, 'luv_my_3' but would love it even more if I could solve this problem in a reasonable manner without excessive noise.

There is currently a GB on another forum for a second dampener, personally I'd trust the other vendor over Weapon R. They're dealing pretty much exclusively with the Mazda3 market. As well Weapon R has not had the best reputation on M3F...

Thanks a lot for the advice and link. I guess I'm still concerned though... see paste below:

Pssst......its a "damper", it "damps"...not a "dampener"

"Dampen" means to make wet.

Also,...
This particular mount design (which I owned) will NOT work with the large "pre 2006" engine cover - it hits. You will have to run without an engine cover or find the smaller "post 06" cover.

Also, the forward bracket chews through the hydraulic engine mount rubber in a few days - you need to put some sort of additional sheet of rubber in between to keep the angled steel off the engine mount.

Hope this helps.

------------------------------------------------------------
Since mine is a 2005... engine cover is a problem as well as chewing through engine mount rubber... Oh well, I guess I'll wait for a better solution.

Yeah....one guy experienced that second issue. 5 people on M3F have been running this from a GB just after New Years. Not to mention several test cars for M3M. And Mctwist bought his from that GB, which was before M3M bought the rights to the design.

And he also said an SRI made his car completely unresponsive and almost caused him to be rear ended when pulling into traffic. I have the same intake and have never experienced what he claims to have. Honestly, I think that guys full of shit most of the time.

Didn't mean to offend... I just have never of others having the same issue when accelerating from still or shifting into 2nd...

No problem... An example of when I can make this happen is if I am blasting away from a stoplight crossing an intersection with a crown in the road. If I unsettle the drivetrain it can't recover before some unweighting occurs due to the crowning and voila... it happens on the shift into 2nd.

Have read many posts now on this and other forums and it looks like the WEAPON*R Engine Damper may be the best bet due to alignment concerns i.e. 90 degree angles etc.

Opinions and real-life experiences welcome. Some have said they had no problems with the WEAPON*R Engine Damper.

I would love to be able to install and enjoy without causing problems like wearing out the rubber in engine mounts and having to change or remove my engine cover.

Just a note: when I mentioned this issue to my dealer they said, "what are you doing spinning the tires?". I said that I should be able to if I want. After all it's very easy to spin tires without trying esp. in the wet. How will the dealer feel about an engine damper? Any experiences?

I'm not sure how dealers would feel about this mod. I believe some ppl have had issues with motor mounts, so I would expect there to be some challenges if you have this mod.
