View Full Version : New Mazda owner! How should I get my ipod/Aux hooked up? ....

I just bought my 2005 Sport GT yesterday (hell yes!), and it doesn't have an auxillary jack inside the center armrest. Naturally, I want to be able to hook my ipod up to my car through the auxilliary input. (I am not a fan of the FM transmitters)

How much does Mazda charge to perform this installment? Should I go somewhere else to do it? What kind of price am I looking at for this? Also, I see a lot of the ipod threads where you can somehow use the controls on the steering wheel to control the ipod. How much $, and where would I go to do this?

Thanks

I don't believe that Mazda has an OEM unit for pre-2007 Mazda3's

There are a couple of third-party options:

http://www.audiolinkcanada.com/xcart/
http://www.sylfex.com/products/AuxMod/

If you search the forums for "audiolink" and "auxmod" you will get lots of good info, as this has been disussed quite a bit.

You could buy Mazda IPod Adapter for $189 plus labour at the dealer

I have the Mazada one, it is OK. The only thing that I don't like is that is locks out the Ipod so all the song selection needs to be done via the deck or steering wheel. Send Flippy (Joe) a PM, he is a parts manager at MoT, he will hook you up.

The install is not the hard and you can do it yourself, I'm sure mazda would charge you ~ 1 hr which I'm guessing is around $90+

This thread has a bunch of info

you could get a 3mm cable to hook up to the iPod, and an iPod charger that'll fit in the lighter thingiemabobbers.

because of this thread I bought the aux mod. thank you =)

They work great! FYI, I would suggest poking through the forums here about how to install it.... there are instructions about how to get the head unit out, and tips about how to avoid damaging or scratching anything.

because of this thread I bought the aux mod. thank you =)

Which AUX mod? I'm just asking b/c the factory one in the 07-up 3's will not fit the older vehicles. I've tried to get the factory AUX port to work in my car but it seems that you will need an 07-up head unit to make it work.

I've heard now that the Mazda ipod/auxilliary jack won't work on any models before 2007... I have a 2005. Am I out of luck on this one? Do I have to search for an after-market device now? Does anyone here have a 2004 or 2005 that ever managed to get the Mazda aux jack installed?

Thanks

Been to dealer and asked them about Ipod adapter, I have 04 m3 gt and all you need is Ipod adapter from mazda dealer, now from seeing their charts, for some cars (maybe gx and gs) you may also need another module.. but if you have something like my car all you need is that oem ipod adapter.
