Im about to install a Sub/Amp. I Have a MTX Amp X300 Model. My question is , is it better to use a LOC or tap into the speaker wires?
I was told its better to avoid a LOC if possible and with MTX its easier to do that. You would also be able to avoid useing a power up wire too.
Has anyone done this with their 3?
Also IF a LOC is used where did you tape in? Behind the deck or at the rear ? Id think behind the deck with the LOC would be better just because you have to open it up to attached the power on wire.

You have to use a LOC and tap it into the front speaker wires.
How is using an MTX amp a better way to avoid using a LOC?? Does it have high signal inputs on it?
The LOC will sit in the area above the centre vents. If you remove it there is a compartment there.

Yup, I'd also suggest using a LOC and putting it in the pocket above the head unit. There's plenty of room there and allows for easy access to all of the wiring needed for the install.

the guy at Future shop to me, I was asking for a LOC and the girl took me to the install shop and he asked what I was running and he said MTX you don't need a LOC. And didn't recommend it. ???

First off. Are you sure it's not the 300XD. I was reading around and it looks as though FS may have made a typo error when they were advertising the amp. Is this your amp?

Second, I think the FS guy may be right about not needing a LOC. I have an MTX amp but is a few years old to say the least. Looks like they have a new technology called 'Smart Engage'. Looks pretty cool. I would still use t-taps to tap off of the front speakers for it but you will be able to get rid of the LOC.

I found the install procedure here so check it out.

If you do end up wanting a LOC I just posted one for sale in the forums. It's the one I used in my Mazda3.

I may be mistaken but I don't think this is a new solution. You would still lose the signal to your speakers. The diagram does not indicate that you can run a T-tap, but rather that you would simply utilize the speaker wire for input. This has existed on many amps for years, called high level inputs. The only thing even remotely new is the fact that a lead wire is not required.
Am I missing something?

No that looks exactly like my amp but my amp says right on it X300DP 300 Watts RMS Class D amplifier and so does the box.
Its a MTX Thunder X model
Does anyone know does the back of the Stock head units for 07s have RCA outputs ?
Im going to bring my amp into Futureshop tomorrow, the guy said he would look to see what I need.

No it doesn't have RCAs.
Personally I won't let FS or BB touch my audio EVER again. They always seem to butcher everything. Why don't you go and visit one of our sponsors? They will do a much better job.
All you would be doing is hooking up:
1. power, ground, remote, RCAs with a LOC and wires to subs.
or
2. power, ground, t-tap speaker wires to the 'Smart Engage' multi-level inputs provided by MTX (if applicable to your amp) and wires to subs.
No need to even go ask a FS installer as they will tell you the same thing. If they tell you any different they are taking you for a ride.

ya NO NO Im not letting them do the install at all. Im doing that myself. The only reason this got started was I was looking for a LOC. See I got this amp off my buddy. I didn't realize I could get a way with out using a LOC. I should have been smart and checked out MTX's site first.
The only think I may buy is some better RCA Inputs, not sure who well the ones that came with the amp are.
Just a nother question, where did you guys ground your ground ? and is there any holes are ready in the firewall I can use to run this power?
thanks for all your help guys.
