Im planning to install a sound system as soon as i get my car within next month, and i wanted to install the 12"Alpine.
Does anyone have a Alpine 12" SWR 1222D installed? If so you guys have some pictures of your setup. Also can someone recommend a good amplifier for this sub.
I read in other threads, but just making sure, if i install this, i could use it with the stock deck right? and would i have to change the speakers?
Thanks A Lot in advance.

If you run that on a factory deck, your wasting your money on that sub. It was constructed to POUND, and your factory deck is not going to make it perform that well b/c of its crap signal.
Invest in a deck now b/c honestly, you will in the future after hear the garbage performance of that sub on the factory deck. I was in the same situation with the factory deck and a sub, and it sounded like amped up 6x9s. Once I threw in a deck afterward, I was fully satisfied.
As for an amp, im not to sure what to recommend b/c its a dual 2ohm sub, so its best to buy an amp that can load down to 1 ohm, and pump out 500-750 watts. Dont go with wiring it up at 4 ohm to get 500-750 watts b/c thats wasting money. This is due to the fact that an amp that size (producing 500-750 watts at 4 ohms) can pump out A LOT more watts at a lower impedence, and therefore you spent $$$, maybe even $$$$ on a big amp, and not get the full use of it.
Remember, run that sub in a ported box. If you have a sedan, there will be a lot new rattles. So sound deadening mite be an option in the future (up to you). I would recommend it though.
Goodluck man!

I have a 10" Type R that I bought back in 2004 and it is still playing well for me. Just recently I bought myself a smaller sealed enclosure from Best Buy which essentially lopped off a couple of inches from each side of the sub, as compared to my previous sealed enclosure. Frankly, with the smaller volume, I cannot notice that much of a difference in bass output; I am quite satisified. It wouldn't win an IASCA competition, but it still hits me in the chest.
I still have the factory deck (with no plans on changing it), but I do have a couple of amps, an Alpine 4-channel running the main speakers (Alpine Type X) and a single-channel Alpine amp running the sub.

ok thanks guys.
Im happy as long I get the deep pounding bass, but if im not happy i can change the deck later on. And i have dynamat.
Im trying to save money slowly, so I just want to put the Sub and Amp. I can keep the stock speakers for now right? But if really want the great quality change the speakers and deck right?
Bluntman, you need two amps? If i change the speakers, would i need a amp for it? Im planning on getting 100RMS, 300peak Alpine speakers, when i do the upgrade.
you guys got any pics?
Thanks a lot, this is new to me so yeah i need some help.

Look into the Cerwin Vega V-max also... It's cheaper and louder too.

Yes, I have two amp, one for the mains and one for the sub. FYI, there is also a killer 5 channel JL Audio amp this is on sale in the B&S section of this form. It is a good idea to run the aftermarket speakers off of an aftermarket amp and not the HU because you will get cleaner sound from the amp.
No pics since it looks completely stock except for the sub box in the trunk.
