View Full Version : Shift Shock 1-2 Warranty
My first thread here :) We just picked up an '04 GT A/T and when tranny is cold we get a harsh shift (shift shock) from 1st to 2nd gear. When it warms up it goes away. I found the TSB and it corrects just that...
My question is, car has 99,900 km on it, would this reprogram be covered under 100,000 powertrain warranty or not? I would appreciate feedback from anyone with experience with it that had more than 80,000 but less than 100,000. I am from Hamilton, so will likely take it to Mountain Mazda. Any referals or recommendations there would be appreciated too :)
If not covered, how much does the reprogram cost for this problem?

i don't have an auto so i can't comment on that aspect, or the dealership aspect.
i know i went in to the dealership and asked if i could have a PCM reflash to a newer version (i never said why i wanted it). they went ahead and did it for me no charge. i don't know if that will still apply for you or not. (this was at Mazda of Toronto, which is far enough away from you that you'll probably sneak over 100,000 km before you get there)
Thanks for the support, trip to TO dealership would put me over 100K :( Will call them tomorrow morning to ask...

I was pretty much in the same boat as you. I bought an '04 GT Sport (82,000kms) and noticed the same shift shock problem. I took it to Mazda of Toronto to get the TSB done.
Cost me about $100 (inspection and flashing PCM).

I have had mine reflashed twice under warranty, once about 2 years ago and once 3 weeks ago, didn't improve anything, still get the shock shift both times after it was done. I wonder if they really did it?
As the man says save your money, if they will do it under a TSB or warranty then do it. If the tranny shifts ok, other don't worry about it,

I wonder if the reflash is covered under the powertrain warranty since you have 99,900 km had mine done twice and still have the shock shift..

How many have the shock shift?

Shift shock can be caused by low fluid, faulty solenoids, slipping, programming, etc. What gear does yours do it in?

Mine is 1 to 2 but is ok after the car warms up.
I think this is a common problem so was wondering if others had the problem solved with a re flash.
Maybe asking the question in the engine tranny thread would help/
