Converting Stock Tails to LED?

I was wondering if someone might be able to help me. I have a (potentially) odd question. I've been looking around the forums, and haven't been able to find what I need.
I am currently running an '04 Black Mica GS, and am very seriously considering smoking my tail lights (along with side markers, but that's neither here nor there). I went to the cop shop last night, and asked about the legalities of it, and it's not illegal, so that's not what I'm worried about. I also know that, in general, people on the forums don't like the smoked lights look, so no need to flame me for looking into it.

What I would ideally want to do is convert my stock red tails to LEDs. I don't want to get the clear LED tails and smoke them, because I think that would ruin the effect. I was wondering if anyone knows if it's possible to convert the stock lights to LEDs, or get some sort of high output lights.

The reason that I wand to do this is so that, while getting the aesthetic look of the smoked tails, I wouldn't have to compromise safety by drastically reducing the output of my tails. If anyone knows if this is possible, please let me know. Thanks a lot.

I'm not too sure what you are expecting. You don't want to get the GT tails and smoke them because that would ruin the effect? What kind of effect are you going for?

I personally don't have smoked tails but I do have the GT LED tails and I can assure you they are bright.

I want to keep the plastic red, but have LED lights. I'm trying to keep the stock look of my tails (other than the tint), but get a higher output, if that makes sense to you...

It threw me off a bit because I personally HATE the red tail lights. But I see what you mean. You don't like the clear and want the red but smoke them and put LEDs in them.

I'm not sure if anyone has done that before. Maybe a member who has could chime in.

Yea, I'm in the same boat. I'm definitely not a fan of the red lights, but I think it would defeat the purpose, really, to smoke the clear plastics. If anyone has done it, that would be great. I know (think) that Devin sells an LED third tail light that I can just install into the stock housing? Someone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong...

Yeah you can buy LED bulbs and put them in your stock taillights. Don't know what size you'd need though. Devin sells a bunch.

That's pretty much the effect that I'm going for, if I'm reading the ad right, but wondering if there's a way to do it just in stock housing... Don't want to get more complicated than it has to be. (I realize that this may be a simpler solution... by complicated, I more mean expensive.... haha)
